You have to understand the function of fixed/variable costs. A 10% reduction in enrollment might require a 12% increase in fees. You have a smaller number of families paying the fixed costs. Pretty simple budgeting process.

Depends on a lot of factors. Quality of product. Competing options. Demand.

Look at the price of beer at a Timbers game. $9 for a beer you can get across the street at market for $.75. Movie theater concessions. Hot dog at Moda Center.

As long as all the losses are in places like Bend, Medford, Grants Pass, Gresham we'll be OK. Reduced travel and medical expenses will more than offset any fee increases.

It benefits my kid which is all I care about. It also causes people like you to complain, which is icing on the cake.

The move will put the smaller and/or poorly run clubs in a tough spot. They are less likely to have teams in every age group or A/B teams so there's less room to move kids around in an effort to keep them. Thus they're more likely to keep teams together and have them play up - which in the long run will bite them in the azz because they most likely will become less competitive playing older teams. Then parents and players get frustrated and leave; new players won't come in because of weak records

That is why our medium sized club first decided to keep 2002 and up teams together but now will switch all but the oldest HS teams that don't have very many players anyway. Even those teams will likely switch by 2017 so the teams can show better at college showcases.

So when this comes to pass and there are just as many kids playing soccer as there were before, are all the naysayers going to come on here and admit they were wrong? That they whined for no reason at all? Personally, I hope it causes some clubs to fold. There are too many of them here anyway.

Completely disagree with the change to birth year and HATE that it is breaking up my kids' teams. One of mine will have to move up to a worse team & one will get to stay on their team with the youngers and suddenly benefit from now being one of the oldest. Even she doesn't want her team broken up, even though it benefits her. That said, THE FLOOD IS COMING! It is a done deal. Many teams in CA have already switched to birth year. No petition & no amount of crying or whining or even legitimate arguments against it are going to change the fact that the flood is coming. So, best to start preparing for the flood and make the switch as easy as possible. Pull the band aid off and move forward for best results.
