That's still a lot of schools. Can't be 312 "top level" programs.

My bad, a few more at 333. If you are "top program" guy then I'm out. Have a fantastic day.

333 D1 programs?? Wow, that is a lot. No, playing D1 certainly isn't that big of a deal. Still nice but truly not such a big deal.

Then you would think more girls from Oregon would make it.

Considering there are over 3,000,000 kids that play youth sports and 333 D1 schools and each school only takes about 4-6 new kids every year that means if you are in that pool of 3 million kids then you % of playing D1 is less than 1%. That is a pretty big deal

Yes you would. Don't know why we don't. Also don't know why there were zero Oregon girls in the NWSL draft nor why there are zero Oregon girls on Youth or full national teams. Usually have zero girls on severely watered down ODP regional teams. Are we not developing the right girls? Do we rely too much on big girls bootball at the younger ages? Do we leave too many girls in our OR elite groups who simply don't cut it anymore? For how soccer crazy we are as a state, sure seems like we should be producing a lot more elite girls.

And if you ask the parents of fall born girls, they will just whine that it's going to get worse with the switch to calendar year ages.

There aren't 3,000,000 kids playing U18 soccer. 80% drop out by U14. At most, there might be 40,000 girls playing U18 competitive soccer nationwide. And a lot of those are not on the college track. Basically, in this region, there are a lot more D1 schools than all the others combined. It's great to make it D1, but it's not exceptional.

The bottom line is playing D1 at all (or even in college at all!) is a huge deal for Oregon girls. For CA girls, only playing at UCLA, Stanford, etc is a big deal. Our girls are coming from an entirely different and much much lower level soccer world. It would be like pitting our 7th grade OR girls vs our own 12 grade Oregon players - no contest, though a couple of our 7th graders would do ok.

It doesn't mean we shouldn't be proud of our girls but they simply aren't anywhere near the girls from some other states.

You must be the delusional parent of a 7th grade girl who thinks she a top player. Sorry dad, your 7th grader would get killed playing against 9th and 10th graders, much less 12th graders.

I am kind of lost too. Tried to verify what is being claimed and this is what I found according to the CU website.

U16 - one player invited to US National training camp for U16 next month
U17 - one player invited for trial with US Canadian team (player is committed D1)
U17 - one player invited to US U18 National training camp last fall (player committed D1)
U18 - one player invited to US U19 National training camp last fall (player committed D1), but unable to attend due to injury

Congrats to all these girls, great accomplishments, for the US training camps, usually only 24 girls per birth year total for the nation is invited per camp. Whoever said that is not a big deal has an issue with perfectionism and needs counseling right away!

Very cool... Great for the girls, the State of Oregon and CU. Great work in developing these talented ladies.

I guess that begs another question. Where these young ladies developed by the CU feeder clubs? Or where they recruited in?

Actually, I'm trying to make the opposite point! Trying to say Oregon girls(mine included) vs CA girls is like 7th graders vs 12 graders. Let's face it, our girls are completely out of their league vs WA players, much less CA players. Every year we might have one or two who do "ok" vs the hundreds of top CA girls.
