U16 - one player invited to US National training camp for U16 next month
U17 - one player invited for trial with US Canadian team (player is committed D1)
U17 - one player invited to US U18 National training camp last fall (player committed D1)
U18 - one player invited to US U19 National training camp last fall (player committed D1), but unable to attend due to injury
Congrats to all these girls, great accomplishments, for the US training camps, usually only 24 girls per birth year total for the nation is invited per camp. Whoever said that is not a big deal has an issue with perfectionism and needs counseling right away!

Sure, some of the top Cal teams are going to knock around teams from Oregon, but they also will knock around teams from all across the country. Some Oregon teams over the years have more than held their own against Cal teams.

We simply don't have anywhere near the numbers of elite players that CA, TX, even WA have. It doesn't mean our girls suck, it just means some other states have many teams full of Gold players, while we have Silver teams with a few Gold players sprinkled around. Compared to Alaska, Montana, etc. we have the teams full of "Gold" players but someone pondered why Oregon has so few players making it to D1, much less top D1. It's because so many other girls from other states like CA are simply much better than our girls.

Pare how many CA players are actually on NT rosters and how many CA girls are signing D1 letters of intent to Top D1 schools like Stanford, UCLA, ND, etc. Yes, every year we have 5-10 very good players. Every year our top girls pale in comparison to the much larger top girls from CA. Population and other things are working against us but we simply can't generally compete on the level their top players do.

California is larger then Oregon. Thanks for that. For our size i think we do ok.

Usually have zero girls on severely watered down ODP regional teams. Are we not developing the right girls? Do we rely too much on big girls bootball at the younger ages? Do we leave too many girls in our OR elite groups who simply don't cut it anymore? For how soccer crazy we are as a state, sure seems like we should be producing a lot more elite girls.

Just compare us to Washington and it's pretty clear. Or Idaho. More population (along with having weather that is conducive to playing soccer for many months of the year) produces more soccer players. Washington has similar weather, but more population (including one city that concentrates a lot of it's population) and it's understandable why they have more top players.

We can usually get some D1 spots but not on top D1 teams because the better Ca, CO, TX, etc girls get those spots. And we can't expect to get girls on any national team rosters or the NWSL draft. Every decade or two we will have a nationally relevant player like Tiffany. It's the best we can hope for since our population is smaller. We're doing great per capita and have a huge soccer culture in Oregon which helps even more.

But then again, Oregon has one girl on a WNT, U17 or U18 I believe. I think our top girls are very close to top girls in a lot of states. Maybe our top girls aren't on a par with the top .1% nationally, but then again, how many states have WNT players? I think for the population that Oregon has, they put out the number of players into P5 conferences that it should put out. We will never have 15 P5 commits in a single year. And we probably won't ever have more than 2 girls on WNTs. But 1 or 2 seems about right for the states size.

Aren't there quite a few Oregon girls on UoPs team? Isnt UoP one of the best D1 soccer teams in the nation? Maybe it's because of all those Oregon players.

You are right, we can't be expected to get spots on top D1 teams, we are a small state & getting some in D1 period is a great accomplishment. Wish we could get more on Ducks & Beaver's roster but Oregon is represented phenomenally in elite women's soccer considering our very small size and relatively small numbers of girls playing soccer. No one expects us to be nearly as good as CA or other big soccer states.
