What bothers me by all the post is everyone thinks their product is best and the other either cost too much or is subpar to the other. No matter what program you go to there is an elevated cost.

The real problem in Oregon is having two ECNL and an academy team has spread the talent out to thin. There are players on all the teams that shouldn't be where they are. There are also kids that would easily be on the ECNL or Academy teams and for what ever reason choose not to.

History in Oregon has shown us that the majority of scholarship kids have come from FC and THUSC no matter what league they have played in. Plenty have done it without ECNL or the like.

In the end it's about exposure. The league, the show case tournaments, ODP, sending emails to college coaches, sending highlight film to coaches all takes time and money and a commitment from the athlete and families.

    Consolidation would really benefit everyone.

I think whichever path you chose, it's ridiculous how expensive this has become. When I was in high school you earned college attention without spending virtually any money.

I realize it has evolved but dropping $40,000 in soccer career pre college is crazy. Plus you could spend more than that if you want to travel to watch. It's unbelievable.

To each their own. I'm just making a general observation.

Yes and the cost is way more for soccer than any other sport... and year round. A talented football, basketball, baseball, etc can get a scholarship simply by playing HS really well. Youth soccer has become a business. Obviously, other sports have some club programs too but it is not as fanatical or ridiculous as soccer. And yet we still produce the top players in the world in most every other sport miraculously. I honestly wish it all was channeled through the High Schools with maybe a few options for the die hards that want to do it more than 1 season. When my kids play other sports competitively, the coaches for the other sports look at soccer people like they are part of a cult because the hurdles to play more than 1 sport when 1 of them is soccer is over the top. The year round commitment for top players has hit insanity and it just doesn't happen for other sports like that. I think it is hurting our players more than helping. There should be more breaks and more than 1 sport should be encouraged.

Sports have really evolved. However club volleyball and club basketball are just as expensive. Top club basketball can cost 5k a year plus travel. High end club basketball athlete tour the country in July and are away more than at home that month. Football due to the nature of the game is still at the High School level. But passing leagues are starting to fill that club slot like other sports club teams. Kids are vary rarely recruited straight out of high school in most sports anymore. It's generally club sports where they are noticed.

I still think soccer is by far the worst. No experience with volleyball, but I do have kids that have done just about everything else. Basketball may be the second worst, but my son played club basketball and it was way less $ and way less need to travel. And yes he was on one of the top club teams. Also the time commitment was easier as there were specific blocks of time to bow out for other sports w/o much repercussion. And by the time your kids reach HS, most of the opportunities in college will come from HS basketball, HS Football, HS baseball, HS everything

It's a risky bet but some people are able to spend it so why worry about it.

I've heard the proposal to combine the two clubs and make CU the A team and FCP the reserves.

I heard the Timbers Alliance clubs (except Eugene and Bend) are not going to offer H.S. aged girls teams anymore.

                            Would they train together?

"A" Teams and "B" Teams don't train together at most clubs. Don't know why it would be any different if this were to happen.

The B teams would all be training separately.
