The new joke is that they have curriculum from Spain that their coaches can't implement. I watched 8 year olds do fitness for 45 minutes without touching a ball. I can't believe those 8 year olds even come back. I'm sure there are many players that will be leaving at the end of the year.

Why are stalking eight year old boys at delta park?

      The land of misfit toys

The land of misfit toys have to forfeit games?

Players going back to La Amistad and going to Eastside. Is the team folding?

I hear players from their U10's are scattering like mice. The very small foundation of player base are leaving.

The small island of Misfit Toys is burning to the ground. PCU should stay clear of this debacle.

      I'm sure Eastside will benefit.

I don't have a dog in this fight but can tell you that starting about age 8, my kids had successful soccer and track experiences with lots of fitness training. One summer, Tahuichi sent a group of their 13/14 year-olds here for 3 weeks to host camps at three different clubs and play tournaments (as U19s). In fact, Nike had an international youth soccer tournament going on at the same time. Some of these 'star' teams challenged them in friendlies and were clobbered by those Tahuichi boys.

When they weren't doing camps and games, they trained without lunch, early in the mornings, and in the afternoon heat. I filmed them on their last day as they did two solid hours on running including " Indian Runs" of sprints and long distance runs. There are over 2,500 kids who try out at early ages to get into their program. Some of us have sent our kids to the Tahuichi America Academy. Discipline, drive, and endurance are also leader-making skills.

Fitness training is key and not a 'joke.'8-year olds are known to be trained this way. Our family have experience it in California and Arizona, and have seen it in other regions of the U.S. and Canada. My kids could handle it and stayed with the training. If parents don't like it and if their kids can't handle it then by all means look for another club.

Obsessive much? I am amazed at how parents get all knotted up over very young youth soccer. Worrying about commitment or training for an 8 year old is misguided. I feel sorry for these children.

Listen.....those player should be touching the ball thousands of times per practice, not running around and heading the ball

Dude you need to chill out. Intense physical training at 8 is flicken rediculous. I don't have a dog in this fight either. I have two daughters above u13. There should be snacks and parent tunnels at 8. I can't even imagine watching an 8 year old partake in conditioning. If this was a legit post, you and Takeshi training need help.

Just because they had fitness time didn't mean they didn't get their other 8-year old times. Like I said before, if you don't want your kid to train like this, look for other clubs.

It's a legitimate post as is the Tahuichi Academy. BTW, we've seen plenty of fit U9 teams at tournaments including Surf Cup, Nomads. They even play in their state cups. Did so in the 90s and still doing it now.

If you have a great relationship with your kid you will listen to your kid telling you what they want to do.

Works now (agreed, no headers) for running drills and overall fitness.

Funny thing is I remember doing all this fitness stuff myself growing up. In school at recess, P.E.,and after school. It was part of my play time with my brothers and buddies.

Pick up or free play time with your brothers and buddies is very different than deliberate organized drills at this age. Free play is the avenue to success, the latter is the avenue to burn out.

And most importantly, our kids are frustrated as they are increasingly beat up, beat down, and burned out by an athletic environment no longer serving their needs, no longer prioritizing their development, and no longer bringing enjoyment or sustaining their intrinsic motivation to compete. It has all become a bragging right for parents and a money maker for youth sports clubs.

I want my 8 year old to be an 8 year old, try different sports, have different experiences and play like a child.

That's great, but don't count on your 8 year old growing up to be an elite athlete, at leat in a skill sport like soccer, or basketball

I'm with the other guy. Let the kids have fun and enjoy multiple sports. Yes, they won't become an elite athlete but they will have a great childhood. 99.99% of the kids who play 24/7 soccer at the expense of everything else STILL don't become elite soccer players. That's a lot of regret. Youth sports should be leisure fun not a full time job. I'm satisfied with my elite academic college bound children being merely "good" soccer players who enjoy the beautiful game and have a life outside of soccer too.

Its OK to agree but in the same breath dont moan when the US has no # players or teams in any sport in 20 years because of helicopter parents who thought that their little Johnny was already a superstar didnt want then driven harder.

Thats the hard truth we live in a landscape of johnny just enough's, and this forum is full of either middle class mediocrity or people who think their kid has already made it!!!!!!!

By its very definition you are not going to create elite through rigorous practice at age 8. Some individuals seem to be gifted in athletics and if not soccer likely something else. I have several true athletes in my family and one thing I notice about them is they seem to be good at everything.

Elite can be all over the board. Is elite playing college ball? Is it going to the Olympics? Is it playing a professional sport? We have all of the aforementioned in our family and not one of them specialized at age 8.

I realize that for a very few, and I do mean a few there could be benefit in some sort of practice at a young age but I don't believe for a second that it is fitness drills at age 8 to play a sport that makes squat if they do go professional.
