Tell that to a local girl who probably is top 50 (getting a WNT camp invite probably puts one in that category) that choose there. May be a decision she would like a do over on.

Define local? PDX? Oregon? There is only 1 PDX girl on the team all others are from Bend or southern Oregon. Most of the girls who have significant playing time are not from Oregon with the exception of Kristen Parr who is amazing and Maryn Beutler who is pretty average for the PAC 12.
There are two Eugene area girls on the team. They both play quite a bit.

Well if she's a top 50 player and chose Oregon I guess she gets what she gets. There was no track record to suggest things would be any different and my guess is she had 10 other opportunities that she passed up on so she has no one to blame but herself

Actually there are not two from the Eugene area unless you include Bend in the Eugene area. The two from Bend play a lot and are definitely PAC 12 quality. Read what the post was in response to.

U of P has a track record and look where they are. Things change and perhaps the player liked the school, maybe they even have a history with the university: siblings that go there or relatives that went there. Even soccer players don't make all college decisions based on the performance of the soccer team alone.

As an ex athlete I can attest the power of the unknown or the potential. One never knows when the ratings may go up. Arizona is a good example this year.

That can't be the only reason U of O is so terrible.

There are two from Eugene ShayLee (Junction City) and Ashlee (Springfield). ShayLee is out with a severe career ending injury and was definitely PAC 12 quality. Ashlee gets a lot of defender playing time and seems pretty solid to me.

Ashlee Schulze graduated from Thurston High School in Springfield and Shaylee Miner graduated from Junction City High School which is about a 5 minute drive from Eugene. I realize they played for Portland clubs late in their high school career, but I still consider them local girls.

And do you also consider them not to be of PAC 12 quality as the poster being responded to indicated?

As for local I don't consider Eugene local to PDX any more than I do Olympia but I get it. I also don't consider either of these two to be the reason U of O is bad as I think they are pretty accomplished!!

I don't think the lack of success can be attached to any of the players actually. I just don't think the program is being ran very well and I feel bad for these girls.

Well true. But my original post said that commits to UoO should be taking a hard look around to see what else is out there. I think I sure would. One local commit to them from the 2015 class spent one week there and left because the situation was so bad. She a good player and transferred to D2 and is doing great.

I know the player who is playing D2 and it is awesome that she is doing great!!! I also know the PDX player and agree that she probably should have looked elsewhere. Having said that I will throw this out there. Most D1 athletes end up being unhappy with their choice of college for one reason or another. At the end of the day it isn't unicorns and rainbows and coaches can make or break you. D1 sports are full of politics, egos, drama, and at downright bull****. There are no guarantees. Even "proven" colleges produce far more discouraged and unhappy players as they do super stars. As an example let's say that you are in the top 5% of all recruits and you end up at a proven university both academically and soccer; heck let's just call it UCLA. You suddenly find yourself in the middle of a bunch of great players and nothing you do can get you off the bench. You may even be better than some of the players that do play but you may never get the time to prove it. Couple that with the hypothetical scenario that you just are not winning as many games as the quality of the team might suggest you should. Talk about miserable.

My point is that I work with a lot of very good athletes. D1 is a hard road. Even a good player can be overlooked and a team full of talent may be doomed by their coach. My advice is to pick a college that you can be happy with outside of soccer because odds are 1) you won't play that much 2) you play a lot and your team doesn't win or 3) you don't play that much and your team still doesn't win. You need to have a life and college experience that will survive whether you are national champs and you play every game or you work your ass off and can't catch a break.

Your assertion that most D-1 players become unhappy with their college and team is utter nonsense. Is this your cover for why your DD went to a D-2 school?
