If you are a high school kid and your name happens to get mentioned in a newspaper article, no, not grounds for criticism nor are you a part of the 'public domain'. You are just a high school kid that happened to get mentioned in an article (whether it was for scoring a goal, a great defensive stop, or any other good play).

The way I look at it: Would I want anyone downgrading or belittling my kid, in a public forum/blog/website/chat room? No---not by a long shot.

Folks----these are 14-18 year old kids (the high school kids). Let them be kids. They have the rest of their lives to defend and deflect criticism. Most are playing for the love of the game and to be with their friends. Childhood and their innocence only lasts so long. It's a big, bad, rough world out there. Do we have to have them face the worst of it at age 14??

Again, ask yourself: Would you want some internet guy saying rude/nasty things about your son/daughter/grandson/granddaughter, niece/nephew, etc, etc? I would think not.

    Let the kids play.

Criticize all you want, once they start drawing a real pay check! At that point, they will have heard it all.
Marcus Mariota doesn't get paid to play and his name is all over the place.

Post your kid's name on here and ask for criticism. Perhaps that will gain you enough insight to comprehend the difference. No one asked YOU for criticism of their kids.

It wouldn't surprise me if you don't even have youth who play soccer. Sad.

Calm down there Sally. I was just poking a hole in the first sentence of that diatribe. Just because people don't get paid to play, that isn't good enough of a reason to have their names kept out of a public forum. Should we not say the name Mallory Pugh? After all, she's only 16 and in HS. She also is on the women's UNT U20 team and is on TV. She's not paid to play. If she is, then she can say goodbye to that UCLA scholarship. And fwiw, I've had my dd referred to on her, her initials used and her name said. I don't want it to happen, but if it's not derogatory, which it wasn't, then I didn't mind. People moved on. I mean, it's not as if she isn't pretty well known by the players and coaches in her age group.

It is sad that logic escapes you. When you have been b(i)tch slapped the best retort is to avoid the topic and resort to a personal attack.

                  Player Reps

So I take it that when a player develops a reputation for a style of play we are not supposed to not talk about it?

If you don't want to be known league and state wide as a flopper ....don't flop nearly EVERY GAME!

Similarly, if you don't want to be known as a dirty player don't get Cards for dirty play. If you don't want to be known as a whiner don't whine to the refs all game long!

If you want to be known for your play score/stop goals and make pinpoint passes and be the teammate that everybody respects and even opposing coaches respect.

                  I can't recall a player getting a rep they didn't earn/deserve. positive or negative.

If a big part of your "game" is working at gamesmanship on the pitch don't be shocked that you get called out . Mom or Dad if you have a problem with how your player is perceived you should correct the behavior or live with the results.

Not who you are responding to but I'm good with the reputation my child's play has earned and really don't give a rip what other parents say about their game because the coaching community knows where they stand as does their future college coach :<).

If you don't want your player to be criticized or judged don't have them play above rec!

And his or her name? Bring on the judgement. Otherwise, you are correct it is up to the coaching community not a&%holes on this board.

Because it's high school soccer and people who really care about soccer don't care about High School.

Careful what you wish for. All of the CU and FCP ECNL rosters are out there. Someone can go through and pick random names and post them on here. You better hope your dd isn't on one of those rosters.
