Reality
Originally posted by Unregistered View PostNot the OP but a wouldn't call 6a "awful" It's good soccer, on the whole, club soccer is still better. So Southridge beat Central 15-1 last night. Why would Southridge schedule a bad 5A team(I think they were 4A last year) and why would they put up 15 goals on them? Seems like really bad form to me.

You're saying that you kept stats on a player other than your own DD a few years back?

Good game to watch except for inept, at times, officiating and strange coaching. One player for Jesuit that appeared to let in 2 goals was not a good defense player. Lincoln players began attacking her. Jesuit coach did nothing to solve the obvious problem. Jesuit also seemed to play zone defense on corner kicks, didn't work at all. Poor coaching of what appeared to be talented players. Lincoln coach made odd appearing choices as well. Lack of proper use of talent by coaches seemed obvious to me.

Do you really think coaching has that much to do with it in High School? It isn't as though they develop together or that they even train that much together. Many schools prefer to play everyone, especially their seniors irrespective of how talented they are. It makes sense from a high school perspective but sucks from a spectator perspective. Enjoy your high school soccer and don't worry about what people think.
One super good thing about high school soccer is that if your child is a good club player then they are a rock star on the high school team.

I cannot speak for Summit
Originally posted by Unregistered View PostThere is a good chance that Summit could beat or at least tie most. Jesuit is an outlier as they do not hold geographical boundaries. I have seen all of these teams play too and I would rather watch good club soccer. I think what happens is that little Suzie gets on her high school team and stands out for the first time and all the sudden Mamma and Papa Bear think this is the best soccer ever and that little Suzie finally made the big time.
I have seen quite a few of the Metro League teams play both last fall and this fall as well as few of the other greater Portland area teams too (Grant/Lincoln/Tualatin/Lake Oswego/Lakeridge/Sherwood)....
I would say most, if not all of the Metro League teams' rosters are primarily made up of Club players (whether it be Crossfire/LO/Southside, THUSC or FC PDX and maybe a few T/S Westside players)---so, in reality, you have the kids that play for their high school teams that may play on club teams with girls that they are going against, week in and week out.
I know that Sunset/Westview/Beaverton as well as Jesuit are all predominantly made up of club players. Sunset is playing their best players....not just seniors.....as a matter of fact, most of the players have some sort of an Onyx connection or FC PDX connection)---there are quite a few FC players on Westview as well as both FC and THUSC players for Jesuit and Beaverton too.
Yes, high school soccer is NOT as elegant or 'pretty' as classic or club soccer but to say it's awful is a stretch because you are then inferring that club/classic soccer is awful too. You are getting a few good/quality players at each school.....thus, the sum of the parts is NOT equal to their entire club team. To say 6A high school soccer is 'awful' is a disservice and not fair to those girls.
