Possession soccer is a thing of the past! Anyone learning possession soccer will fall way behind developmentally! Look at Spain! They out-possess Chile 63% to 37% but get their tails handed to them! They out-possess Holland 64% to 36% and lose 5-1! Oh no! I can't believe I have been sold this possession garbage from you people! What have I done to my child? Oh me oh my.

I can't wait to see which Country can kick it the hardest and is going to win this World Cup. Hopefully, Klinsman doesn't ruin years of hard work to get the U.S. team where it is and teach any possession or just how to play the game in general cause I'll be pissed.

I am humbled by their genius and tanacity. They saw that possession soccer was completely dead when Spain didn't see it. They were right there on the cutting edge like Chile. We all need to learn from this World Cup that it's really important to kick it really hard.

Of course Pep and Mourinho interpret recent results: Pep argues that it is a question of execution, the Special One that teams' strategy evolved effectively to beat Spain. Heard alot about Chile, but really couldn't watch much of that game (was trying to get work done).
EDIT - As for how to develop players - don't we want all of our kids to be competent with the ball at their feet? Who knows what type of system they will play in when the get older, but from a development perspective don't we want them to have a solid technical foundation and isn't learning possession-ball a good means to to that end? . . . think folks interpret counter-attack to be bootball; Real's counter-attack this year was amazing at times and I wouldn't call it bootball.Last edited by Slow Xavi; 06-23-2014, 11:47 AM.

Are they as technically skilled as a Japan? No. But they use their strengths (size, speed, strength) effectively, and their style is definitely NOT bootball. I would equate the USWNT's style to the women's version of a Real Madrid, whereas the Japanese style is more of a women's version of a Barcelona. Both styles can be very effective, if applied effectively.

Japan out possesses Colombia 60-40% and gets creamed 4-1. Time to boot. But boot with a purpose. Go to goal!!
