It's going to be the same cost as any travel heavy team. The hope is that they subsidize the travel portion. If they do that, it will do very well.

ODP as bad as it has become at least is still better than putting the thorns name on rec soccer players. The couple good teams in the alliance will gain nothing, but hey at least the parents can stick together, like thats supposed to make it all better. I ask, are you doing whats best for you or what's best for your daughter? Maybe you can invite the college scouts to your block party BBQ.

You see? We warned you. When you get high on meth and post, this is what you get.

So the Thorns Academy, could be the powerhouse if they can somehow figure out how to subsidize it. It's a big if I realize, but until they announce it there is no way to know.

Do we know if this is even possible?

Good luck with that. The MLS teams subsidize their academy teams because it is an investment. Players on the MLS academy teams are contract bound to their MLS team, and the return on investment is if the academy player makes the first team. The potential huge return on investment is if the academy player becomes good enough to generate a transfer fee from a European club.

There is no money in women's professional soccer, so there is no return on investment for subsidizing girls academy teams. I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for the mythical $500 Thorns Academy to happen.

The question is should you believe anything they publish?
So, are you saying that the BIG announcement is purposely being held back?
That strategy could backfire. It would just confirm the Timbers attempt to derail ECNL.

Get the word out now and let parents and players decide which is the better program.

I have one universally recognized sign language for the Timbers, a variation of their foam finger.

                    It's been formally mentioned

You people all need to go to the timbers website pick youth then read thru the info for 14/15 opd/rtc

Not a lot to go on there. Plenty of unknowns.
                      Is this your formal mention?

                      "July/August Thorns Academy Tryouts TBA"

A few preliminary details would help, namely projected cost, league and/or tournament competition and how this academy differs from ODP. Way too much to ask ?

People need to worry about what is known and not what is not known. All we know is CU and FC have announced ECNL and that CU has actually set their tryout dates. If CU's tryout dates come and go and you have an offer for them, then in my mind you take it unless you want to risk the Thorns option or the FC option.

As of now, FC hasn't announced their tryout dates. Why is no one getting on them? When are they going to announce them? FC is just as much an unknown as the Thorns academy. And don't give us the "you can set up a individual tryout at any time with FC" line. If I'm interested in FC, I want to see who all is trying out. I want to see the entire dynamics of the group. I don't want some individual tryout. That tells me nothing.

When all else fails, follow the sage wisdom below:

"There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know."

No one is getting on FC because they've announced that they will have an ECNL program and how much they think it will cost. That's way different than we might have a team, we don't know what league it might play in, and a bunch of speculation that it might be the same financial deal as the DA.

But by not announcing their tryout dates, they are adding in just as much uncertainty. So a girl gets an offer from CU, are they going to turn it down in hopes that FC has a tryout and that she makes it? And she won't know who is at that tryout and who might be on that team. Those are important factors. FC needs to be held just as accountable for not putting out their tryout information.

FC is simply letting CU go first as they know that CU needs the help...
