Ok I have to ask, how much do you pay to play now and with all the show case tournaments in your future, do you expect to pay? I mean who are you trying to kid here man? Either your kid sucks or your gonna be paying darn near ecnl costs in the near future and get a lesser product for your hard earned money. Stop with the b.s. I pretty sure nobody is buying your line of crap. Don't like it don't do it and go away far far away. The kids that are going to play ecnl will be fine without you and your dd.

Odds are the person you replied to is a TA coach desperate to keep his top players. Just ignore those fools.

If you are doing ECNL to be "fine", you are completely missing the point of elite level competition. This isn't the "Fine Clubs National League" it is the Elite Clubs National League. Damn Oregonians just don't get this. If you aren't prepared to run with the big dogs than get out of the way.

From the numerous reports of low turnout at the respective two ECNL tryouts these past couple of days, it doesn't sound like anyone had to try hard at all to keep their players away from anything. Essentially, outside of the clubs involved, nobody else showed up.

Good for your girls though as they basically made an ECNL team if they just attended the tryouts. Easy "A", baby!

Actually, there was a pretty good turnout tonight at FCP about 45 or so. Some of the notables were not there at this age group, mostly from the 2 best alliance clubs, but there were some surprises in that there a few from the WA Timbers, one Salmon Creek kid, One eastside and some THUSC bubble girls, probably hoping or looking to move up from playing the 'B' team at THUSC. A good chunk of their current navy team was there, obnoxiously wearing their State Cup shirts. I didn't see the play ups, maybe they are doing U15? Or more likely don't need to tryout.

Well, maybe we missed on attending the Crossfire/THUSC tryouts as that is twice as many players as I saw tonight on Hazelia field. It would have been nice to see a larger group interested in our ECNL team.

The lack of alliance players just shows how bitter this rift is between the two leagues and how small minded coaches and DOCs are to not want the best players on the pitch representing their state.

It is all personal choice. Many kids do not want to leave there friends and teammates. Some kids like the option of playing multiple sports and do not want to commit to an ECNL schedule. Some kids don't want to drive 45 minutes each way to practice 4x per week. Some families cannot afford the cost.

I would not put all of the blame on the coaches and DOC. This ECNL is a great opportunity, but it is all new to Oregon.

Both ECNL 'clubs' are located on the west side. Adding to the 2k fee (FC) for ENCL and more for the tourneys traveling fees would be that most of the Timbers teams don't have players that would make the team and the ones that would would have to travel from across town, adding to the cost. It's serious time and money for serious soccer.

So, there you go. I really do think that FC and Crossfire/THUSC may just become "ECNL" only teams from U14 thru U18 and let the rest of the peon players migrate to the Timbers Alliance.

Probably the best thing to do for their brand anyway. They can take 20 each of what they consider their best, or "elite" players, and leave the rest to the TA teams.

Hey, those leftover kids will at least get to feel like they are big time, even if it is just at a local Oregon club. The Timbers are kind of becoming the club for the masses.

FC and Crossfire/THUSC are just wanting to become the club for the few, the proud, the ECNL'ers. Good thing my kid is damn good, because we are playing.

ecnl is not for the best players. it is a mix of talent with parents that can afford to cough up a lot of dough and want to make a huge commitment of time so they can tell their work colleagues their daughter is elite, even though she lost to SoCal 7-0. Did I mention she's elite?

Hahaha! Yes, those U14 ECNL teams are going to get drummed by the major markets for sure. But since they are "elite" they will just blame someone else for this, as it couldn't possibly have been their own doing.

Probably just the Portland Timbers because it is their fault that no one showed up for their ECNL tryouts.

To blame the TA clubs for "not wanting the best players on the pitch" is ignorant. They have no reason to send their best players to ENCL. ENCL isn't a state sponsored team, its simply a club who was accepted in. Its still competition to the other clubs (TA or not) If another team can offer something that parents/kids like for less money then why shouldn't they. I thin what your really seeing is ENCL isn't as desired as so many people were thinking it would be.

I'm also curious with the difference in tryout numbers how many kids went to both tryouts, but will only pick 1 team. the reason I say that is in total it sounds like theres around 40-55 girls who are interested in ENCL between the two clubs, both clubs will probably take around 22-24 which means only a few kids will get cut. Its clear its not all the best, so it will be interested to see if they will dominate in their own state, and if they will even compete with the out of state teams.

Are you asking whether the U14 ECNL teams will compete within state of Oregon leagues and teams? Because, if so, they can't. These teams will only play league games in the ECNL which requires playing numerous teams from outside the state. The only league game they could have against an in-state opponent is when they play each other.
