That is what I thought about ODP. My daughter plays on a B team and ended up making ODP.

Stop it! It's 10,000/yr high budget for the kid. If parents want to travel that's going to cost another $2000 or so , but it's weird for parents to travel with the team so stop including that as part of the cost.

Well, at least based on last night's turnout. Who knows, maybe the real big guns show up tonight and save me from this. But, I am not feeling so great about it right now.
You pay $500 more per year and she gets 4 training sessions per week instead of 2.

If she is on the bubble than you don't have to go to the travel games and not pay for the travel. She can play in the normal non ECNL league games.

If the team is not a whole lot better than she is a bubble player on her current team as well?

If she loves the game than go for it. If she is a bubble player in Oregon than I would not invest a whole lot of money into the sport to get to the next level.

Give it a rest hater. There is still one more day of tryouts, how the hell do you know what the end result will be.

I hear you. The problem is that once you get past the top 7-10 girls the talent fell off pretty dramatically. So, she would get to practice with those top few girls but the Reserve Team would be clearly inferior to her current club team.

I was hoping that if she made the Reserve Team it would be equal to or greater than her current club team. I was thinking the Reserve Team may be a good option for her because I never expected she would make a true high level team. There is no chance of that happening because the talent just wasn't anywhere close enough last night.

At least she will be excited and I will just bite my lip and let her enjoy the time. Maybe it won't be the elite level experience, but she will have fun and I guess that is what matters

Likely many of the girls that will be on the "reserve" team weren't even at tryouts yesterday. I wouldn't assume anything about the quality of these teams until tryouts are complete. At FC, there are 4 U14 tryout sessions and you don't need to go to the first two if you don't want to commit the time and/or can't afford to be on the ECNL team.

To be clear, there are 2 ECNL tryout sessions and 2 regular club team tryout sessions. Sure, you can market that regular club team as your "ECNL Reserve Team". But, everyone else will just call it your regular club team.

Additionally, I am not assuming anything. I am a proponent for the ECNL but both of these new ECNL programs better hope for a significant influx of talent at the U14 age group ASAP or that is going to be one long year.

Otherwise, these are essentially local Oregon club teams going up against all-star teams from bigger markets. That is unlikely to go well at all. Our local club teams generally don't do well in just NWCL. They will be crushed playing against legit ECNL teams.

They would be even better if you would not be selfish with your players and let them tryout. Isn't it time you do right by a few if them?

Mostly because I have been through this 50 times. The second and 3rd day of tryouts rarely brings anyone new...possibly 1 or 2 but even that is unlikely. This is ECNL. If you don't show up the first night, you are at a big disadvantage. And everyone knows it so everyone shows up the first night. Duh.

I'm a little bummed to hear so few showed up. Really makes you wonder what is going on. But good luck to you.

Will some regular club teams in the area be better than ECNL? I hope not.

Most of the top LO players didn't try out for ECNL. I think only 2-3 from what I am hearing. So the U'14 LO team won't be too much different. I know some of the kids and parents don't want to switch coaches as they like what they already have.

This age group is a wash and the ecnl team is going to be a joke.

                          Coaches aren't better

Training numbers and quality will be a joke

                          Costs are 4x as much.

But at least you get to play nwcl and ecnl final tournament?

Sounds like a super deal to me!!!

Ecnl teams will be 3rd and 4th best in this area.

Pretty evident that if you are good enough, you steer clear from ecnl on this age group.

Sounds like you are pretty happy with your current team, so best wishes to you and your in the future. Very happy that my daughter will most likely be on this new ECNL team. Looks like this is a win win for both of us and we are both happy. Cheers!

My daughter was at try-outs and I think the new ECNL team will be jsut fine. Look forward to playing your daughter's team in the future. I guess time will tell how good the new ECNL team really is. My feeling after the first try-outs is that they are going to be pretty competitive against any team in this area. Perhaps not the ECNL on the larger scale, but very competitive in this area. I imagine that if they start winning convincingly this year, then next year more girls will try-out and they will get much better over the next few years. These things don't happen overnight. I'm just glad my daughter gets to be a part of this team from the beginning.
