This tournament isn't good and the area should be trying to develop a truly good tournament to attract top quality teams. If you think about it, Portland is perfectly situated to attract teams from around the area being in the middle of Seattle and northern California, close to Boise (OK, maybe not top quality but at least could draw from there), etc.

The problem is still that the local clubs don't work together to make a true premier level tournament. Too many money-grubbing clubs trying to get water from a rock and host poorly ran tournaments. The solution is easy at a high-level, difficult when you get the TA teams all wanting their own tournament and using back-door/McMenamins deals to try and fill their tournaments.

Until some coorperation happens or teams stop attending these tournaments (even for free), nothing will change. But, for all of us to complain yet send our teams is kind of like complaining about your body shape if you are unwilling to change your behavior to fix it. I just hope there is some good 'ol target practice being done this weekend near Harmony, I need the full affect while watching soccer there. Maybe a good fundraiser would be to sell either hunter-orange vests or ear-plugs at the tournament? Man, I should be in marketing...
Why would the top Seattle or Norcal teams want to play in a tournament in Portland? If a tournament were held in Portland, it would be less attractive than existing top-level tournaments in WA and Norcal. Why? Because any tournament in Portland would likely attract mostly Portland teams, thus lowering the quality of the tournament below existing options.

I have asked myself that many times and I am not saying that PDX could get all of the top teams, but I took a different route. Why aren't we getting Seattle teams to come to PDX? First, I agree with a previous poster that NWCL has hurt but still think there is a possibility if it is done right. Second, if there truly was a tournament that had minimums for entry to ensure that the top teams from OPL premier would join, wasn't watered down and there were some other incentives (like Adidas/Nike involved), I think it could be attractive. The problem that I am trying to solve is that there isn't one tournament where all of the top OPL teams are playing, so there isn't a chance.

Could be nievity, I agree, but without some outside the box thinking, there isn't a chance. Make a champions league type tournament, send real invitations, get a big company involved with top quality rewards and I think they would at least consider it. Do it on a weekend where the top teams aren't likely to play in Seattle and see what could be done. If there was a "winners carrot", that might be helpful as well. Not sure what that is, but could get creative.

Finally, keep the current people running tournaments out of the loop.

        Timbers Alliance Tournament

One answer is The Timbers Alliance clubs should combine in to one tournament each summer. Alternate the host so and share the proceeds between all alliance clubs. Maybe the hosting club could get a little extra. This would allow clubs to travel elsewhere with the extra weekends available.

They need to take the statement about "attracting top teams from AK, ID, WA, OR, and California" out and replace it with something more accurate.

Exactly. You are spending $675 to play teams that you could easily set up friendlies with and get the same thing for free. Your own tournament provides better competition in all reality. You should spend you money on one of the better tournys in California, especially where you will get exposure since colleges are going to be offering to your age group right now.

So are you wanting every tournament in the area to change what they put. did you get "tricked" into attending a tournament based on what htey put. The funny thing is everyone usually has their tournaments picked before the season even starts, so whatever is on the website makes no difference what so ever.

Honestly though, I dont get why people come on here just to bash all the tournaments. Is this going to happen every week with every new tournament? is PCU next?

If your not going to it then who cares. Many people enjoy every tournament, why try to take that away from them?

So that comments on here take away your enjoyment of the tournament? I hope you are not that thin skinned. And furthermore, everyone has their view of whether a tournament is any good or not, and we are certainly allowed to express those views on here. Unfortunately, there isn't a local tournament that gives you any credentials if you win it. You certainly don't put it in front of a college coach as some accomplishment. But if $675 to play some local teams is worth it to you, then go for it. The Nike Cup and the Beaverton Cup do a little bit better job of bringing in out of town teams than any other local tournament (I should include Mt. Hood Challenge in that too). To me, if you are doing a local tourny, you pick from those.

I thought that this tournament was a *** tournament. Why are the mighty U14G awesome Reds playing in the select bracket of the Waterfront tournament in Salem? I mean it looks awesome beating a U15 select team 9-0.
