You're right. Brief answer from local DOC was that "we know how to do it". I took that to mean that he had no f^^^*** clue.

Thank goodness for Crossfire Oregon, FC Portland and the other who control their own paths.

A few things I'm thinking about after reading all this.
-Not sure why people outside of the alliance clubs really care. whether you think its a good idea or not doesn't really matter since it wont affect you in any way.
-This is another opportunity for those who are in the club, if they want it then good for them.
-For those saying this wont make a much better team. If you took 4 strong clubs A teams and just took the top 4 players from each team, wouldn't that make a much stronger team? This isn't like tryouts where you get 60 kids and the top 5 are head and shoulders above every one. This is more like having a tryouts where you have 60 kids and the top 20 are head and shoulders above everyone.
-Seriously why do people outside of the alliance hate this? Its either because they are upset that they can't tryout without being a member of the club. Or They have some weird issue with kids going and competing somewhere else.

That's the primary reason for the alliance. Get more people to join so they might benefit from the association. It's totally demeaning and beneath what a professional franchise should be about. The Timbers should be aspirational, not something to convince parents to buy in to so their kid has a better chance of making it. Just wait until there is some sordid youth soccer scandal that ends up on the Timbers doorstep. The pennies that GW is squeezing out of the soccer community won't seem worth it then.
The concept of Timber's Alliance is not much different then OSSA.

How is the Timber's brand on the Timber's Alliance any different the the Crossfire brand on OSSA?
