    A thought.

The business of the Alliance soccer clubs is to have more and better players. This results in more fees and higher incomes for the personnel of these clubs. Do you really think that this will be free?

Yes I am. I'm glad for the opportunity the Alliance clubs are giving to my DD and these players. Extra opportunities to play in showcases. And yes I expect to pay extra if my DD makes the squad. What does that matter to you or others who are not affiliated with the Alliance clubs? Interesting that your DD is not with an affiliated club, but yet you criticize why they are providing another opportunity for their players.

What is different about it? The clubs making up the alliance will select 1 team to travel to showcases? If they select 1 team that makes them more competitive to travel, that's a plus if I'm understanding this correctly.

It's obvious why these parents from other club are trashing the idea... they don't want the Alliance clubs to be successful. all pure jealously, hatred, etc..

I am personally trashing the idea as I see it as a secondary team to play on and for. My DD loves her club team, but has not been impressed with ODP this past year and would consider this idea. But if it requires that you must also play on a Timbers club team, NO Thanks. OSSA and FC's programs to play in the WCDA are much more attractive and less restrictive.

Don't have hatred or jealously. Simply don't want them to be successful.

I am trashing the idea because it is not a good idea. It has nothing to do with jealousy, hatred, or any of those other things you seem to flatter yourself with.

Let me try to put it in simple terms.

I am going to make up a number and say there are 1,000 kids playing competitive soccer in Oregon. (I don't know the exact number, but it doesnt really matter for my message)

There are two paths development can proceed down.

The first is for all 1,000 kids to be placed on teams (approx 50 teams) and have these teams play in a statewide league. assuming these teams are properly leveled to competition, they will all sharpen their skills, and the state skill level will be driven upward. A subset of 4-5 teams will rise to the very top, and they will seek to travel for other competition, and will have each other to continue to improve against. Occasionally a player will be identified or a team will be identified outside of these 4-5, will continue to improve and will advance to the top level. Call that model 1

In model 2 everything is structured around money, the top four or five teams are motivated to become the top 1 or 2 and so they make a grab for "all the talent". They send a message that "if you aren't a member you can't play with us". They end up serving around 100 kids. These 100 kids may or may not develop faster, the club will do everything to convince them they are special, while not allowing them to play teams outside the group, in case they were to lose. The occasional player or team will not be identified, because you have to be on the inside for us to see you. Call that model 2

Now a dose of reality, as prescient as the DOC's and coaches would like us to think they are, they can't recognize the next Messi at 9 years old, they can't really even tell the difference between who will succeed as a college athlete when looking at 13 year olds. Growth rates are different learned skills like discipline, and the fire someone has in their heart will all change over time.

So so we keep the full 1,000 kids in play, or do we take the 100 who can pay, and then try to make them look good, maybe better than they really are?

I will vote for model 1, a model which is distinctly at odds with the timbers alliance idea, as well as with the directions OPL has taken.

                      Just an opinion.

                        Control

This is about control. GW and the Timbers want to control all soccer.

Thank goodness for Crossfire Oregon, FC Portland and the other who control their own paths.

                          lot of junk here:

bottom line it's an additional opportunity for alliance members. not an alliance member, don't worry about it. alliance member- don't tryout for it if it bugs you. pretty simple.

anything else is just pure stupidity on your part.

Just how is a team of the best players of all the Alliance affiliated teams going to get into a tournament? No track record in state, none in tournaments, etc. Do you think that you can tell the Surf Cup people that none of the Alliance teams qualify on their own, but the best players coming together for this tournament will be just great? It's going to take awhile and so it really is a whole new team, one for the state at each age/gender group, and thus no point in playing on your local team in Rogue Valley or Bend, etc. So, the dreaded travel to practices for the new team happens. Unless, of course, the best-player Alliance team just enters crummy tournaments, which defeats the premise.

No hate or jealousy, just experience and knowledge of how things actually work in the real world.
