Because coaches are paid to win games. They'll take the players they think can get them there. If that means hiring players that couldn't quite make it at home or soon to be retirees? So be it. -
Its working to. The Timbers with the 8th highest payroll in MLS missed the playoff last year, and it looks like will miss the playoffs again. Having a foreign coach also seems to be helping. All I’ve ever seen from this kind of forum is moaning and bitching about all kinds of stuff that most people aren’t qualified to talk about. There is no respect for expertise (which I’m sure will prompt a response by a non-expert about how there are no experts in this state - which will make my point). You have a problem with development but don’t know development. You have a problem with coaching but don’t know about coaching. You complain about fees while demanding better standards of everything. Maybe the answer is to become more of a soccer community! Try and actually listen to opinions of people that have been actively involved in the game and are committed to the development of the game. Develop a culture in America that emphasizes FUNdamentals at the youngest ages. For example, individual ball and 1v1 work until technical proficient and ball secure rather than being pushed into competition before they’re ready. When was the last time you saw a video of a private session solely about 1v1 defending with corrective feedback (purposeful training)…maybe changing the way we think about the last specialisation nature of the game and how it relates to competition would help things improve!Comment

Roughly half of Oregon States Men's Soccer roster is Foreigners. Oregon kids or at least US kids can't play soccer to have a 3-1-5 pac 12 record and 7-4-6 overall.Originally posted by Guest View PostComment

MLS does have rules on how many international slots teams can have, the issue though is teams can trade those slots to other teams so they can add more foreign players. Have an issue, deal with MLS, not Timbers fault for taking advantage of the system.Comment
