My kid IS better than all the kids on the OPFC 09 roster. As far as I know they are all good kids though. I hope all of them keep having fun and improving!

It is about being fair. Some players that were selected to represent Oregon in the ODP West Regional Camp last July in Salt Lake didn't even make the roster? And they tried out and practiced. Some OPFC players that didn't even practiced made it. Based on what? Seriously they should have coaches that coach girls' teams coach boys ODP and vice versa. This is way too obvious.

The 2nd 09B ODP team will kick the 1st team ***. It is that bad the selection.

I think the same the for 2010. Talent evaluators had no idea what they were doing. Next time, ask for help. Ask TA, ask the local trainers, watch some club games.

There was no evaluation. And no shame either in the 09B selection. Just a bias towards OPFC and everyone knows why. Top players not chosen. Sad.

My 2011 son got a pretty elaborate written evaluation after RTC trainings but prior to ODP tryouts. Did the 2010, 2009, not receive those? I was pretty impressed with now in-depth it was. Kudos to all. Most of the stuff in the evaluation we knew already and my son is in the final pool so pretty satisfied on my end. One issue I had though was that I did see one of the OPFC coaches running RTC and on the field during ODP tryouts. Aaron Peck I believe. Not a surprise that his kid made it, will withhold judgement on where it was a deserved selection. But super weird dynamic. At this level, parents should not be coaching or evaluating their kids in any capacity. Maybe good for your kid, but not fair for the rest.

Parents are the worst part of kids soccer.

If you think these coaches care what team a kid plays for rather than winning you are delusional . At odp they only care about winning not making kids better etc it’s 100 percent result oriented.

LMFAO - every year we get the ODP posts but this year’s are some of the best . “It’s not fair” (my favorite), “my wonder kid made Salt Lake last year and didn’t get picked this year”, “ODP is the best soccer in Portland”, “the B team would kick the A teams ass”.

Half the whiners say ODP sucks, the other half complain when their kid doesn’t get picked. Who f’in cares. Play, don’t play, they will get their money regardless. And that right there should tell you all you need to know.

Then they don't know much about the sport because that 09B roster is missing some good players that can give the best chance at winning. No wonder why this state can't produce players..

What about half the players are from OPFC and some of them were not even at practice? And many of them are not even the best players in the state at each position. A complete joke!

Best I can tell, save a couple recent TA practice players, not a single TA player is going ODP. So yeah they are missing some good players that would help them win. But ODP isn’t the end goal, TA is.

                                1) No ODP coach should coach the same age/sex as he or she coaches at club.
                                2) No ODP coach should be permitted to contact any player not on his/her club, outside of ODP functions, unless a) a bulk announcement that goes to everyone, or b) the player's parents and club coach are included in the communication.
                                3) Player selection decisions should be done jointly, or in age group pools, with each coach observing more than one age group and making decisions collectively. The coaches of each pool should come from different clubs.
                                4) Any offer of preferential treatment in exchange for personal training sessions, changing clubs, etc should be prohibited.
