It's fun to read your posts. There you are sitting on the sidelines, hating your own club, biting your tongue as everyone around you bad mouths your "hopefully" future club. Hell, you are not even sure you will make it to VT so you can't even come out of the closet with your "big announcement" about switching clubs because you might be stuck with Pacific next year. What a drama!

And, BTW, the only person that seems to be pissed off about a merger is you. Of course, you don't give a valid reason for that.

More like, if Pacific is so bad and his kid plays there but has to move to Timbers. Which team at Timbers is he expecting to make? Will probably be the 4th or 5th team at Timbers, since Pacific is so bad and did not teach his kid anything.

I was just an idiot who listened to others who said Pacific was just as good as VT but cheaper so go with them and save your money. Now, I know better. Played few years with Pacific. Now realize should have went with VT when my kid just started. I just get fed up with Pacific parents saying how they compare to VT and less expensive. For those like myself, I believed it and after few years realize not true. Now, got to hope my kid has enough skill to make a VT timber to go to build up more skills. Starter at Pacific and hoping makes team at VT. That tells a difference skill level as get older. For younger parents take your kids to VT if serious about soccer. Don't make same mistake I did. Also, I don't want merger to go through as you will have 2 clubs at $1000 each and no other options. The egos are ruining soccer in Vantucky. Pacific should stay select and feed the good kids who want to take their soccer to next level to Timbers instead of telling "newbie" parents like I was at that time that they are on same level as VT. Also, it fragments the good players in the county to make a top notch team.

I haven't really seen any Pacific parents saying that they are better than VT. Pacific is not and never will have better teams. They have their '99 boys and that is it. Otherwise most of the VT Reds teams could beat Pacific teams very handily. Bottomline, if you have an elite player that is looking for multiple training options VT is the best choice. If you have a child that wants to train 5 days a week than VT is your best option.
If you have a child that wants to play multiple sports but might still be interested in mixing in with the Reds on occasion than VT is still your best option. Select at VT vs Pacific costs are similar.

I can tell you that the older boys side of VT isn't as strong as most PDX Clubs. If you have a child from U13 on up that is a male and your child is an elite athlete than VT isn't the place. If you have an elite child from U7-U12 your best bet is VT............VT has some great up and coming boys teams coming up. The merger next year will only strengthen this. I heard VT had 135 U10's at tryouts and had to cut them down to 90 to get the quality. Those are rediculous numbers. I've heard that those numbers will grow by 30-40 next spring.
As for the girls side I'm not as familiar but I do know that U-10's, u-11's are extremely strong. I believe that our U12 and U13 girls were in Northwest Champions League Finals. The '97's, '96 and '95 are top 3 teams in Washington.

Does anybody else have that type of resume in PDX area?

This is why I do not hear Pacific parents dogging VT's quality. VT has quality throughout apart from maybe one or two teams.

Thanks for the nice, honest post. Your advice good. I hope other parents who have young kids read it. To me, if FCSC and Pacific merge only will dilute talent further. Make sense?

+1. We are at Pacific and I have never heard any badmouthing, except that it is more expensive. But this is ONLY TRUE if you compare the VT Premier program versus Pacific Select and that is not fair to begin with. VT HAS Select and it's comparable (pricewise) to Pacific.

                agreed.
FCSC on the other hand costs more than VT by only a few bucks. They are nothing more than a select club with one good team. Why anyone would go there for that poor of a quality club is besides me. Adding Pacific to the mix does nothing but create more expenses and add to the cost of what they call Premier Teams.

This may be true or it may be false. If you have some information you can share, please provide a link. If not, why should we believe you?

Another poster upthread said that there would be a tiered system, just like VT, with Premier paying different from Select. That makes more sense to me so, without further info, it would be more logical to assume that.

Not trying to start anything, just would like some real info from someone, somewhere.

Agreeing with what already has been said: VT is no doubt the best choice if your young kid is serious about soccer. "Serious" means they only want to do this sport.

But I think your anti-merger stand is wrong, for most people. Parents and kids need to be able to move to a different club, with a new set of people, in case they fall out with a particular coach or the DOC. (Speaking from experience here. Sounds like you are now experiencing the same--aren't you happy you have a local option to leave Pacific to?)

Guess who benefits by having a single top club? VT DOC (more $), top coaches (better talent), and the starting lineup of the A team (better competition). Oh yeah, the Vantucky community can take more pride in their local team if they do well.

                    Did I miss anyone?

                      Here's what information I have......sorry, no link.

Pacific FC has one good team - '99 Boys - most if not all of this team (if they have any brains) will be at VTimbers next year.
FCSC has one good team- '00 Girls - does this team stay? I don't see why not.

Basically this merge is to strengthen the "select" soccer in the area. This merger consolidates 2nd, 3rd and 4th tiered players.

In the negotiations there was talk of Tina Ellertson being the DOC, a paid DOC. The only way you can have a paid DOC is to raise the fees. My question is, why would a select only club need a DOC?

If you really think that you are going to only pay $350 next season if the merger goes through you are high on some of that now legal stuff :)

but this is all mood point......the merger has been dead for almost two weeks.

we already have a single top club - VTimbers are the single top club. VT produces more top caliber teams than any other. If you have a top caliber player you should be playing for the Timbers.
VTimbers are dominate and should be just by pure numbers, and those numbers are growing. I can only see two teams at the Red's level that aren't as dominate. The system is working.

Merger is not dead. They are dropping trying to have the recreational part of FCSC come into the alliance. The select/premier part of FCSC is still working with the Pacific group to push this part of club through. They need a DOC to play OPL and some of the board members and DOC at Pacific want to do more then play select level ball. If you talk to these guys youd know this. They want this bad. It will mean higher fees.

Where are you getting this from? Who is the "these guys"? AFAIK, at PFC, the head guy moved on and there is no DOC.

I also heard that PFC needs FCSC so that they can be a real club and continue to play in OPL. So this merger idea won;t roll over and die.

Why would Pacific need FCSC to fill the OPl requirements? Pacific has a DOC, not paid at this point, but you do not need a paid DOC to meet OPL.
Pacific just wanted FCSC to join for some extra numbers, they do not FCSC for any other reason.

Reread requirements listed at post 31. Pacific needs to be a club, etc., etc.

Pacific doesnt "need" extra numbers. You make that up?
