OPFC has a combined 04/05 team going to Florida for the National League tournament, playing in U19.
WSM is sending an 05-only team, playing in U18.
UPDX is doing BECNL, not USYS national league.
No other local team would qualify, at least in the 05 or older age groups.

Neither OPFC nor WSM is likely able to field both a competitive 04 team (which would consist only of HS seniors born in September 2004 or later, and any 05s who might play up), and a competitive 05 team.

Two other local boys teams will be competing in USYS national league: WSM 09s and PCU 06s.

I presume you mean for Elite 64. If so, it appears they are not: sending teams to FL at least:

            https://system.gotsport.com/org_even...s?group=130634
            https://system.gotsport.com/org_even...s?group=130635

So, the dill hole touting the merits of Elite 64 as a college recruiting platform in the context of OPFC's participation appears to have been playing with a jar of Vlasic.

Jesus Dill Hole, why are you obsessing about OPFC? They are doing E-64 and the National League PRO. They chose the PRO (and rightfully so) over the E64 Showcases. Any other questions, or is there where you feel the need to criticize OPFC (or whatever club is not your club) to feel better about your own choices.

I get the impression, actually, that the subject got changed up a bit.

Someone started talking about E64, someone else started talking about USYS National League PRO. Both are USYS platforms, both have major events in FL and AZ throughout the winter.

OPFC is participating in the latter, on the boys side next weekend, in the 04/05 age group only. They aren't participating in the E64 SHOWCASE next weekend (it's the same time as PRO), but are doing E64 league play, on the boys side. (The name "Elite 64" is a bit of a misnomer, as boys and girls clubs are counted separately--apparently USYS couldn't get 64 unique clubs to sign up. OPFC is not participating in any of these platforms on the girls side). OPFC is doing well so far, though the competition isn't terribly strong, at least not in the NW Division (them, two Boise clubs, Valor from the Seattle area, and a Norcal club that didn't participate in the first event).

Whether or not E64 is a good college recruiting platform, I dunno.... but here's the schedule. GotSport

Of course, the main advantage of doing E64 (or ECNL) from a recruiting standpoint is the showcases; college coaches love them cattle calls. (And OPFC isn't going, just so their 04/05 team can do PRO instead and try to earn a ticket to nationals; E64 has their own separate national tournament and doesn't provide a pathway to the big show like PRO or USYS Regionals does.) The league matches of both platforms--where one club will host another on their home pitch for a day of matches at each age group--I doubt are that exciting to scouts. Were I a college coach, I'd rather watch OPFC play WSM or UPDX than Idaho Rush or Valor...

                Too many fvcking travel leagues!

Just to summarize, the thread name is UPX B Team sucker; yet now the topic seems to be about OPFC. Out of all of the clubs in Oregon, it would seem that UPDX and OPFC are the only ones trying to offer as much exposure as possible. It is understandable that this may not be something that interests everybody, but does that necessarily mean it is wrong? Just because something is wrong for YOU does not mean it is wrong for somebody else. In this current political environment where open discourse and bad behavior is the norm, how about we just focus on what our kids and their clubs are doing? If your kids club's plan/path aligns with what you want for your kid, great! If it does not, talk to your club and share your concerns. Stop putting others down to try and feel better about yourself.

What this thread is about is youth soccer clubs extracting as much money as possible from hard working Oregonians with a false promise of exposer! 99.9% of these players (in terms of soccer) are heading to junior college (probably the smartest choice for the money) D3 (the most expensive choice and a giant rip off academically and athletically), or NAIA (NAIA eh, depends, some good state choices)
None of the youth players need to play in the Elite Academy League, E64, ENCL to get there. Who needs your kids to play in these leagues. The people who make a six-figure salary coaching your kid. Pretty sick and you are a sucker for paying it. If you are at UPDX you could be a B team sucker!

                            Exposure to the travel virus.

That drains your pocketbook and disortients your grasp on reality.

                            Well done and well played.

What I still do not understand is why you are on here espousing your opposition to what a club is doing, if it does not impact you or your child? Unless of course, you are a UPDX or OPFC parent with buyers remorse? Either way, why come on an anonymous site to talk crap? Either it pertains to you or it does not. If it doesn't, move on with your life and focus on your kid. Stop hating. One day youth soccer will be in your review mirror, how do you want to remember this time? More importantly, how do you want your child to remember this time? Focus on what you feel is best for your child and let your bitterness towards what others are doing go. Seems obvious to me.

The opinion is voiced as a warning. Once a parent spends the money it is gone. Its a rip off and people deserve to know.
