Depends on the school. Seniors are not allowed on JV teams, so it's varsity or nothing.
If there are more seniors that go out for soccer than can fit on the roster, someone will be cut.

You can also see which schools have this policy by watching the strength of their JV teams with good freshman on them.

Jesuit cut a senior a few years ago, and Westside/Thorns academy put her on the academy team (back when Academy teams didn't play HS soccer). Which speaks volumes about the talent level on those academy teams back in the day.

I guarantee you younger players with talent will play 2x harder than most seniors. They want to prove themselves. These teacher/coaches are lazy and politically motivated. It makes the high school scene nearly unwatchable. Most coaches will tell you that they have fix a lot of bad habits when these girls get back from High School season.

Kudos to Jesuit for their approach for fielding the best side possible and truly playing to compete and win. Unlike other high schools such as St Mary’s that will give any Senior who wants to play a varsity roster spot regardless of experience and skill. This is not a good look and also unfair to those experienced players looking to compete.

Also, recruiting players is strictly forbidden by OSAA, but obviously not strictly enforced if their fans are just tweeting it out.
