She would be on the list along with others that they would hope would come down to age and some that would come from Portland. It would be a great team.

        WUSC vs THUSC

        2010:

        THUSC 2. WUSC 1

        2011:

        THUSC 2. WUSC 1
        THUSC 2. WUSC 2

These teams meet again today in what has been a very competitive series going back to u11. Willamette United has a chance here to truly become a contender with a victory today. While a Zirconium win can reestablish their spot among the top tier. A draw would be a victory for WUSC and a setback for THUSC.

            Eugene 1 --- Lake Oswego 1

Great game on a very poor field. Both goals came in the first half. Second half was full of missed opportunities for both teams. Can't wait to see LO back in Eugene!

If they get in a situation (like in California) where they may have to hold onto the ball some are not able to do so. In Oregon it's easy to play 1-2 touch soccer because other teams tend to chase the ball. In California sometimes it seems as if the other team has 13 players on the field because no one seems to be open and you may have to try to create something out of nothing.
Anyone, and I do mean ANYONE who has heard the coaching this team receives consistently would know they are not "instructed" to get rid of the ball in 1-2 touches. They are a possession coached team. This is the most ridiculous post I have seen on this site since I have browsed. This team possesses the ball better than most in their age group. Why I'm wasting my time replying, I have no idea. I'm sure it's a big mistake. Bring on the haters.

Actually congrats because your post is now the most ridiculous post on here. While I don't completely agree with the other post no where in the post does it indicate that they don't play possession soccer. You are trying to make something out of nothing. VT is a very good team and they play pretty soccer. They do need to learn some more technical skills but everyone does.

Not trying to make something out of nothing. The actual quote said that they were instructed to get rid of the ball after 1-2 touches. That is not possession soccer. The team is told to hold onto the ball, and be patient for as long as necessary. I am o.k. with being called out as the most ridiculous poster...No worries. That has clearly been proven wrong by many other posts to date :) I can actually be far more ridiculous if needed ;) I do agree, that all teams at this age need to improve their technical skills.

As a VT parent I have no doubt you can get more ridiculous. 1-2 touches can be possession soccer. VT does need to learn how to hold onto the ball more under pressure. Once they figure that out (through technical training) they'll be able to compete in California. Until then the results will stay the same.

                        NEW OPL GU-13 FALL RANKINGS:

                        1. Eugene Metro: Solid game against Lake O with the pieces of the puzzle to knock of anyone. Solid defense leaves them lossless going into tomorrow.

                        2. Valencia (1st division): Although 2-0 against Eugene, thoughts of lack of competition as well as performance against will leave them sliding down after a solid summer.

                        3. FC P: Slides down based on their bye and Eugene's solid performance. Questionable ability to make the long haul

                        4. THUSC: Big win over Willamette keeps their hopes alive as well as makes a statement to stop their slide.

Nope- I am rarely ridiculous. 1-2 touches can be, when they are smart, intelligent touches. The original post implied they were not, or at least it read that way. Which is fine- I certainly could have mis-interpreted the original message.

This is still a team in growth mode, so I would agree that they are continuing to gain confidence, and grow in their soccer skills. I had to defend the coaching this team receives as the one thing that is not "instructed" is to get rid of the ball. At times it is the right call, but it is not what the core message is. If you are strictly predicting a tough road ahead in California- it will be challenging. This is why the team goes to California. And before anyone chimes in, there are plenty of challenging teams here in Oregon, and plenty in Washington as well :) I think teams grow through losses as much as wins. This website is fun :)

WOULD YOU CHOOSE A TEAM THAT IS WINNING BUT NOT SO GOOD ON TEACHING THE GAME VS. A TEAM THAT IS TEACHING THE GAME BUT ISN'T WINNING.

Without question I would choose a coach that will teach the game, but isn't winning. Point me in the direction of that coach! However, because I have more than one child playing competitive sports, I'm unable to drive 60 miles to get my DD there. So we're in limbo.
