I am truly not even with this VT team. But it's getting old. Stop bagging on them.

Equal Comparison

If you've even been to both then you'd understand that. Rankings really don't make any sense. Go check them out. They rank the same tournament with different points for each age group. (ex. LO Cup)
Tournament points in GS are determined by who attends (RPI) and it's different for each age and gender. I think it's funny how some blowhards come on here spouting personal opinion like it means something. Newsflash: You a far from an expert on the subject.
I'm not saying GS is perfect by any means but when you have two tournaments running the GS Software (Surf and San Diego Thanksgiving Tourny) it's hard to argue that there is a bias. Same software / same calculations / same methodology / get it?
Given that I'd tend to believe GS more than a buch of armchair strikers.
Just say'in

Both Surf Cups are excellent tournaments but summer does draw the better teams. It's the bigger and better of the two.
If the Surf Cup drew better teams it would garner more points in the GotSoccer calculations. The same calculations and RPI formula is used for all tournaments by GS and they are both Got Soccer tournaments.
Reality Check!: The points are so close for the two I think one can probably say they are pretty equal.

Clearly it is one of the top "tournaments" but is not relevant to this discussion.

He doesn't have to sell the summer tournament.

Recent Surf Cup had 180 teams and 62% in state / 91% in region (Boys & Girls)
The last San Diego Surf Thanksgiving Tournament had 154 teams and 82% in state / 99% in region (boys and girls).
Neither had any international teams.
Your statement regarding higher caliber of teams is pure opinion. The Tournament Director's comments were that the Turkey Day tournament, while smaller overall, is actually made up of more higher caliber teams and is more competitive. (hence the #1 rank). The Turkey Day tournament has more of the top So. Cal teams than Surf Cup.
I think the TD's assertion carries more weight than your personal opinion.
But hey ... believe what you want just don't spread misinformation.

its not relevent
None of it matters if there going to the Surf Thanksgiving Cup unless they pick up several key good guests they will go down with them. if they do not then i would predict it will bee 3 and done and go enjoy Disneyland. VT 99's are a good little team, but lets face it in there own words on post they cant put any balls in the net, there not going to get those break away gimmie goals and there defense cant even hold NWN to zero. They have some good players on the team they just dont have enough of them. they are also going to find out quickly what physical play is and i dont think that they have the size to match it. they do have decent fundimental soccer for this age but when your playing teams that have fundimentals, speed and size all in one package and 2 deep your in trouble at this age level in the game. I do hope they have a good time and good luck, really, i hope you prove us all wrong.

Everything you read on this board is about challenging yourself and development at the early ages. That's exactly why we are going. We believe this is how we develop. Measuring oneself against top competition. Our team / players will be better after this experience. We will grow and learn. After all ... that's what it's about.
I can't believe the grief the 99 Reds are receiving on this board for their decision to play in this tournament. It's disheartening. I hope none of our players know about this webpage and read this stuff. I hope none of our kids do.

When teams from THUSC and SS are getting in who wouldn't have a prayer to get in at Surf doesnt help your point. Its an invite tournament that is heavily sorted for BOYS. I should also point out that there are more top ranked teams at Surf Thanksgiving then Manchester Cup 10 fold.
Interesting you are comparing VT to NWN who is a regional contender. Know that noone even at Surf or Region IV could keep them to zero. You should probably ask yourself who would they fancy playing, your DD's team or VT. You should also know that VT was 2-1-1 against NWN to that point. Wait, should we compare VT to your DD's team>>>>>??? No just compare them to NWN who did better than Crossfire at Region IV and Crossfire went to quarter finals at Surf.....VT beat Crossfire two weekends ago by the way.
What I should point out is that you and everyone's scrutiny of their ability to be accepted into one of the top tournaments in the country is a complete joke.
You can pick through weaknesses or strengths all you want but in the end you have to live on or scrutinize the accomplishments of everyone else because its pretty clear you can't do it with your DD's team.
You seem to think you know about a team based on a score last weekend when in all reality what lingers is your jealousy of the simple fact your team isn't to that point where applying is even an OPTION.
Go ask your coach if you could get into Surf. really ask them.
They should be applauded for getting accepted and the moment your team gets in base on resume alone, let us know so we can sort them out and stand on the shoulders of regional contenders to diminish the accomplishment.
Seriously, the previous poster should be called out so everyone can see who he is and know what kind of cancer doesn't below on their sidelines.

Onyx Parent Here:
I thought our GU-14 thread was bad. I mean wow, how completely disgusting in how jaded people can be when accomplishments are brought to light. It was the same thing when Onyx went to Surf for the first time. People compared results to teams their kids teams wouldn't even have a prayer against just to say Onyx didn't below. Even going 3 and Out both years, people still scrutinized.
I will be the first person to tell you our parent group isn't perfect but what I can tell you is that if this team did get into Surf, people should applaud it and think its another team from OPL is going to up the level of respect to the area. You will find very quickly everyone thinks of Oregon in Cal as they do Idaho, doormats. Washington sends 4 teams to Surf while we send maybe one, fortunately its my DD's team.
Get over yourself and realize very quickly this important truth.
THERE WILL BE 1 MAYBE 2 TEAMS THAT WILL MAKE IT OUT OF THE DUST IN THE NEXT TWO YEARS AND I CAN GUARANTEE YOU IT WILL BE THE TEAM WHO HAS CREATED THE LIST OF ACCEPTANCES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS.
Give them credit as it is due and realize at least they are doing things all the CAL/WA teams are doing during these non summer times. Getting a list built.
