Thank you to those who pretend to be DA parents and concern so much about the quality of my son's life. Just want to let you know most of us who are from out of town moved to Beaverton to avoid long commute on weeknights. None of us drives for two hours to practice. Oh, and my son is enjoying his new HS life and DA experience, so don't worry.

I don't think anyone is worrying about you in particular. It is all about choices. It's one thing to move for a new job, but moving for a youth soccer experience is a whole different deal. Whether its worth it is an individual choice. For you it is and that's great. Doesn't mean everyone has to agree with you or they are somehow wrong or inferior if they don't.

I don't think the previous poster made that implication. He's not asking you to agree with him. He's just stating his situation. So, just shut up already. Live your own life --that is if you have one.

Ok. I hope they all played well and had a great time doing so.

good result. RSL beat Galaxy and their U16 killed Chivas earlier in the season.

                  random question

I know this is random, but just out of curiosity, has everything really been free for DA players? Besides the $500 equipment fee that is? Also, are players lodged and fed pretty well when traveling? Are meals free?

Players have been given running shoes, firm ground boots, compression shorts, training shorts and shirts, sweat pants and shirts, socks, duffle bag, and rain jacket. Travel is all paid for with perdiem for food. They also sleep in their own beds, unlike travel with most clubs. Trainers and managers are also available at all times.

                      The only real challenge has

been for the 2nd tier players picked. As most of us know Oregon is that 'deep' in it's talent pool for Academy level players. So the coaching staff has been challenged to find meaningful playing time for the reserves. This harsh reality has been tough on about 8 to 12 guys but it's what they signed up for. Due to this turnover from year to year may become more evident until those on the bottom of the depth chart can be quality contributers. They don't get travel, lodging and food paid for as they don't travel to away games.

There were several posts on this topic and it being the biggest drawback to the no high school rule. The response was usually some personal attack on the poster. It's a bummer for those guys, particularly if they left good high school teams to do the academy.

Yeah, it's sad. For future reference, do you know where you stand (in terms of playing time) on the team before committing? It would be hard to watch as a parent and for the player as well. Oh well, I'm sure next year, a lot of these boys will leave the DA.
