In general it would appear that they are attempting to assemble their team roster for the Interregionals. Interregionals are over Thanksgiving for the girls and I am not sure of the timing for the boys. This is where each region plays other regions for the championships. The interregionals are much like a very good college showcase tournament with fewer teams so it is well attended by college coaches.

They train together and are viewed by various coaches. Frankly, it may get a little political as the regional coaches don't actually get a carte blanche choice of the team. They obviously have input but not always the final say. Even so, this should be a very good experience for your child. There will be other events and it varies from year to year. National team coaches will likely be around at some point but they usually attend the regional camp and did not this year. The academy programs for boys and ECNL for girls have changed the identification process somewhat but it is still a wonderful experience and a way to get noticed.

My child's club coach got flooded with college interest in her after last years InterRegionals. Things are very different for boys and girls with respect to recruiting so this may not be the case on the boys side.

Having said that, my child has committed to a college but is still participating in ODP regional because it is a good experience.

Thanks for the feedback. Is the region 4 team announced at the end of camp?

It use to be, but for the girl's this year it was not. This was my DD's 5th time and she did not find out until late last night even though the camp ended Friday. I don't know if this is just for the girl's side. Up until this year all region iv sent their teams to the same regional camp. On the last day of camp they would unveil who had made holdover. This is the first year in which they said it would be on the region iv website no later than Saturday morning but it wasn't until Tues night. My DD has been on the regional team since her first year of eligibility and I have to say this was a disappointing year with respect to how they organized and coordinated. Even so, she will be a proud member at the region Iv holdover camp and hopes to once again represent region iv in her age group. Good luck to your player !!!!

I misread your question. If you are referring to the Region Iv Holdover camp (so many camps) then the answer is in our experience NO. They send out invites very close to time for interregionals or whatever event they are rostering. That too is somewhat inconvenient because the child wants to be on the region iv team but if that is not possible these are the kids that are invited to all the showcase tournaments; a couple of which are around the same time. It makes scheduling very difficult. You really have to row with the punches. I personally think they could do a much better job of organization.

Thanks so much for the info! Rumor has it that the Interregionals cost $1000. Is that true? US Soccer helps with the holdover camp, but why so expensive for a tourney? I would think there'd be some "assistance" once your player reaches this level.

With the decline in attendance to USYSA (thanks mainly to US Club offering their "COSTCO" level of price and service), there are no more free rides. In years past all it took was a phone call to the OYSA office asking for assistance and they held out their hand. Twice we were short a couple $100 to get to holdover and invite tourney. OYSA stepped right up. No forms, no questions, nothing.

Last year's Interregional's were $650 not $1000. It is a week and for girls is located in Boca Raton Florida over Thanksgiving which is the highest flight volume time in the US. Basically any holiday is very expensive to fly so the $650 all inclusive price is not that expensive compared to any tournament that my DD has attended that required air travel. When we did the final four it was well over $1000. In any case, I don't know how much assistance can be obtained as we have never received any from anyone. Of all the tournaments that my DD has attended I would rank this at the top in terms of exposure so it could be a good fit if you are foregoing other tournaments. Also, unlike club tournaments, you do not pay for the coaches, you do not get nickled and dimed on food, yada yada and so forth. As travel soccer goes we rank this very high.

Do you know if Boys side is similar? Also, as a previous poster said, is it also your experience that the Revion IV team for this Interregional tournament is chosen by invite at a later date (meaning sometime weeks later than actual holdover camp)? How many kids do they take for this Region IV interregional team? Do all kids from holdover participate or just some by invite? Are the interregionals simply 4 teams (4 regions) of 18 players? Are they picking kids from the interregionals to the national pool?

Sorry so many questions. Brand new to all this!

They do not take the entire pool to all of these events and the entire pool will not necessarily get to participate outside of the holdover camp. National invites are just odd. They use to pick then at the regional camp to attend national camp. My child was picked from interregionals to attend national camp but we did not know that was a possibility until a invite popped up in the email.

Beware if you move or change your email which we have 1 time in the 5 years of participation, in spite of the fact you contact them and you have filled out subsequent paperwork. They don't seem to close the loop. They collect all the paperwork but they don't supersede all the out of date information. My recommendation is to highlight it on the paperwork with a bold statement that it is a new address!!!

In general they pick 18 to go to an event. On the girl's side this is not something they share with the group at holdover camp. Also, they do not notify you if you are not selected.

So it looks like the disorganization of ODP is a systemic problem. We all should have more appreciation for what EL does rather than dogging him all of the time!

Truly it is more disorganized the higher you go. Being a business person I don't get it as it would not be difficult for them to organize. I think the problem is that so many people are involved from all over and they can't get a consensus or decision makers are not available. Either way, I think it is unacceptable to be so disorganized when these kids work their butts off for these opportunities and supposedly will be dropped for the slightest infraction. This is especially true when the administrators themselves don't follow their own rules. Very bureaucratic and government like. And, I agree that EL has little control over the environment.

I would just like to say thanks to all for insightful posts. I am new to this process and everything about it is exciting, stressful, intense, and fun all at the same time. For all the threads that get nasty on this site, every now and then I see a thread like this that is completely redeeming.
