Originally posted by Unregistered View PostWe received a handout at the closing ceremony with detailed information on what to wear, their daily itinerary, etc. I hear food is way better than regional camp and lodging is at a hotel with two to a room. It looks like they train for about 2 hrs in the morning and then break for lunch and classroom, followed by dinner and another 2 hr training session before bed. I hear it's more laidback than regional camp and kids bond more. Let me know if you'd like additional info.

If your child isn't already on the radar then they definitely need to attend holdover camp. The good news is that holdover camp is actually fun compared to regional camp and less expensive.

For us it means that my child has no need to participate at the state level any longer as the likelihood is very high they will be chosen anyway since they always have been before.

How did the '98 Rush girl make the hold over camp if she didn't go to the regional camp? She didn't make the hold over camp last year so that can't be the reasoning.

New procedure = bad precedent
I can't think of a better way to destroy the credibility of the ODP process than to allow players into the regional and or holdover camps without going through the tryout process.
I understand that they are trying to put the best team together but if you are going to select players without a tryout the tryout process needs to stop as it is expensive and time consuming.
It's absurd to think you can actually select players who you are unable to stack up against players who ARE in the tryout process and know that you have chosen the best player.
This stinks of politics and reputation over talent and is a disincentive for players to work hard and get better!

I will have to see how many So Cal/WA teams make the final 18 when the roster is released. I just may not have my child attend regional camp in the future if that's the case. To spend all that money for what????
Don't worry, the Timbers are selecting the DA in just the same way. Lot's of special tryouts due to "unavailability" and "injury."

Annnnnnd that's not all!
After talking to the 95's & 96's many were not allowed to play their strongest position which resulted in girls with lesser talents up front getting selected to hold over. So we send our ladies up North expecting a fair and unbiased evaluation and we get the cluster that passed for the "Regional Camp" this year.
Need proof there is one player headed to a Pac 12 school as a forward that never touched the ball up front. Ohhh yeah they really know how to evaluate talent those 2012 ODP coaches.
I predict a dramatic drop off in ODP participation next season and or a drop in talent as the real players are not going to waste their time and money even if it is a little cheaper with the Timbers involved!
