    Upsets in the second round?

I'm intrigued by a couple of the second round 6a girls match ups and see some upsets (upsets based on rankings only and my gut feeling).

    Upsets
I think Lakeridge will beat Barlow. #6 over #2. I think Grant will beat South Salem in OT or PKs. #3 over a #2.

    Close
I think Sunset will have a heck of a time with Sheldon but will squeak by by a goal.
Southridge loses in OT to North Medford. Thurston by a goal over Clackamas. Lincoln gives Jesuit a scare but Crusaders with 2 late goals to win. Tualatin over Canby- also close and Tualatin gives up their first goal of the season in a 2-1 win. Westview 2-1 over St. Marys.

    Thoughts?

      Sweet 16

My predictions. I said 'my' to preface that this is my opinion and my opinion only. No scientific theory has been applied, just a guess based on record, league and even uniform color. Nothing more.

Lincoln at Jesuit - Some might overlook the Cardinals but I think it will be closer than expected. LHS 1, JHS 2

Grant at S. Salem - Grant hasn't impressed me as much as in past years. They do posses some good individual talent but I think the Saxons will prevail at home. GHS 0. SSHS 2

Canby at Tualatin - The word is Timberwolves haven't played any teams of strength. Well, they might have to wait until next week. CHS 0, THS 3

Southridge at N. Medford - This could prove one of the best matches of the round in my opinion. The Black Tornado's rolled unblemished through Southern OR and will continue their tear into the third round. Southridge will have to travel into harsh waters to face the music. SRHS 1, NMHS 3

St. Mary's at Westview - I think St. Mary's might be signing the Blues as the Wildcats pounce all over them. Westview is a tough venue to play in. St.MHS 0, Westview 4

Clackamas at Thurston - Strength of league is what I based this prediction off of. The Colts play a tougher schedule and in my opinion have more to build on. CHS 1, THS 2

Lakeridge at Barlow - The Pacers were the shocker of the first round beating Central but I think their luck might of just ran out. After an early season loss to Sunset the Bruins have been on a tear through the Mt. Hood Conference. And let's face it, Barlow can be an unfriendly venue. LHS 1, BHS 4

Sheldon at Sunset - This could prove another quality matchup. The Irish coming off an away victory and Sunset coming on off a less than spectacular win. If the Apollos can get it together they could win handily. If not, it might go down to the wire. Either way, I think the Apollos know how to win. Irish 1, Apollos 2

      Let's hear your thoughts.

Tough to handicap these games. Sheldon is good, but I see Sunset coming out firing. I coulod see this going way south for Sheldon, 3-0.

Southridge and N. Medford looks to be a real tight one. Probably the game of the night. I think Southridge wins because of their experience playing in the state's best league. Thurston is a very very good team. They will win 1-0 and dominate play. Lincoln and Grant are having down seasons. So Grant could be ready for a fall, S. Salem wins 2-1. Hard to see Lincoln doing much, it will end up 3-0 Jesuit as the Crusader's coach will have his team well prepared and they will coast.

I think Barlow comes out in top, 2-1. They have had a really good season.

          Looking forward to it all.

...and make sure the players (and fans) dress warmly. With the daylight change it's starting to get COLD!! Best of luck all.

Southridge got up 2 - 0 in the first half.

North Medford came out hot in the second.

Southridge gave up a PK in the second half.

North Medford had a ton of chances to win, but could not finish.

                        Tualatin vs Canby

great game 2-1, canby scored after 1/2, camby with 25 sec puts a ball off the right post, half the ball crosses the line, then its cleared. tualatin moves on.

                          Tualatin over Canby 2-1.

From the get go Canby controlled the first 10 minutes of the game with a couple of shots on goal. Tualatin then started to string the passes and took control of the first half scoring 1.

Canby came out after the half with a HUGE charge. The few shots they had on goal were well played and with a slip up on the defense got by Tualatin and scored on a high volley shot over the goalies reach.

Tualatin then came back 10 minutes later to go up by 1. They started to spread the Canby team out across the field and that worked for a bit. Then Canby made a come back not falling for the Tualatin keep-a-way trap any longer. They [Canby] started to connect more and more passes together causing Tualatin to chase the ball a bit.

There was a last (60) second charge by Canby with a nice shot on goal that (according to the AR) did not go in. There were so many girls close in that from the stands I could not tell one way or another so I'm not one to argue about it.

Canby at several points in the game got a bit too physical and one player received a yellow card for it.

It was great to see Poppy back on the field and as usual, she made a big difference in the level of play. She took a fall onto her good arm that caused some fans concern and guarded that healing side with caution throughout her entire play. Jill got taken out (sandwiched hard) late in the first half near the box causing her to leave the game and to be carried to the locker room by the coaches at half time. Lets hope for a speedy recovery.

Tualatin goalie made a great save/deflection with the help of her defense on that last shot. But team looked to be panicked a bit. They are going to need to bring it a lot more to keep moving on. Good luck to all the teams.

IMO it was their first "real" game so far this year. Im sure it was an eye opener to everyone concerned.

Watched the Jesuit game. 2-0 Jesuit over Lincoln. Defensive game. Lincoln didn't have one shot the entire game, not one. But Jesuit had trouble penetrating the Lincoln defense. Great defenders on both sides.

Jesuit scored on a bad goalie mistake in the first half. Got their second on a shot that a Jesuit player redirected with her head. It was well deserved. Lincoln did not put more than two passes together the entire game. They have some individual talent, but no organization or idea of what to do with the ball as a team. Jesuit dominated possession but as I said, really struggled to break down the Lincoln defense in the final third. Jesuit has talent at ever position and looked clued in as a team. I like Jesuit's chances. Lincoln needs better direction.
