I think the REAL narrow-minded are the few thousand people who think it's okay for the rest of us to pay for your hobby. All this rationalization about "improving" the economy is nothing but regurgitated BS. It's trotted out every time a millionaire wants a taxpayer-funded playground.

The least we should expect is honesty from stadium proponents. I know it's too much to ask from Phil.

OK, and what you are in turn saying is that the rest of the people in the metro area are OK with paying for your personal hobbies - be it running tracks, tennis courts, basketball courts, Amway Center, performing arts centers, etc. etc. etc. End result is that it, although not catering to your caviar tastes, lifts up the area economically and therefore benefits more people that it does now. Yes, it does disenfranchise some. It always will. If I were you and I don't want to support it, don't buy tickets to the games. Don't support MLS and all that it represents. It is an easy task.

You're trying to justify this narrow single-use facility by comparison to a running track? Really? Tell me, what PRIVATE Corporation profits from a running track, a park, or a public basketball court? Which tennis court is funded by taxpayers to the tune of $84mm?

Do you claim the Amway was a good investment? Have you been to see the Magic this season? Plenty of seats at cheap prices available. It's a case study in overbuilding a facility. But at least the Amway can host a concert occasionally; there's no way in hell Phil's going to allow "his" manicured turf to be destroyed by music fans, or anything else.

Give credit to the columnist who at least acknowledges Phil's Pholly is a rip off. People like you will rationalize it to the end.

When are ECNL tryouts at OC? Are they having any id sessions prior to ECNL tryouts?

People like us rationalize it until the end and people like you sit in the corner and sulk and complain. At least we get some sun and enjoy ourselves.

Might be too late for id sessions as next week is final 16 for state cup and then another round for final 4. I'd think a club that has an announcement prominently profiled on their website isince February that tryouts are in May and details to be announced later has to have a clue when they are going to have tryouts. Makes you wonder why no announcement as of yet. I'm more interested in coaches though.

Look beyond your U-whatever daughter's lost year at OC and move on.
Move forward and onward to MLS. OC has a fantastic investor and main owner in the Brazilian who can visit us with a Visa once a year. Spare nothing and ask NO questions. Purple scarfs for All. Testing our sensitive sports market with a brand new Citrus Bowl makes NO sense. Build Build Build this purple stadium giving full control to the Brazilian in hopes of a return to our local economy.

We have been promised impact to our city. Tourist will be lined up to attend MLS games. Hotels will be overflowing with Guest in quest of MLS soccer. Ask no questions just join in the movement. OC has earned our trust and no one should question their intentions.
