I can't vouch for this but just based on my limited exposure to Alan Hough ... If you want to fly I bet they don't care. It doesn't cost them anything for you to do it. He spoke last night about High School and said he doesn't think girls should play but that he realizes they find it more important than club so they are working with high schools to make it work.

This is a great idea, and I'm sure the Directors at OCYS will suggest exactly these options when parents ask about missing 3-4 days of school for each road trip.

Mom:
"Excuse me, Coach? I'm a little concerned that Mia will be missing so much school since she's required to be on the bus with her team Thurday and Friday then the following Monday/Tuesday. Can we discuss this?"

"Right. Well, if you want her to play at this elite level, certain sacrifices have to be made. Education has to taken second seat to matches".

The "pro" team players are paid to do a job, and presumably not enrolled in school that will be missed because of extended "road trips". Maybe if you shake the stars out of your head and made a valid comparison, you'd be "krazy" about protecting the future intersts of your daughter instead of drinking the Purple Koolaid.

it's not about attracting players - it's about doing the right thing. Ideally - all top level teams would be completely subsidised.

You are honestly going to try to spin OCYS offering subsidies to their best players as A Bad Thing? As a parent, anything any team can do to cut down the ridiculous cost of youth soccer in this country is FULLY welcome.

Will it help them attract the best players? Of course. As will link to the pro team, the improved fields up at Seminole, the DA and ECNL status. All of these things are good for our kids and for soccer in Central Florida. To try to spin it any other way just makes you look bitter.
