Seems like quite an uproar in the news since Atlanta got an MLS franchise without a "soccer specific stadium" required.

I guess either Phil is a very poor negotiator or a flat out liar. I think it's the latter. Evidence is mounting that the County got taken for a ride.

So you're saying Phil should have held out for a $1 billion convertible stadium? I've got news for you, this ain't Atlanta and we don't have $1 billion. $300 mil or so for two stadiums sounds like a good deal to me.

Vancouver has a soccer specific with a canopy system to allow for football games, DC is about to get there own soccer stadium at Buzzard Point, Portland has SSS that it allows some other events to take place at it, New England is looking to build a SSS closer to Boston and will have one within the next 5 years, Seattle does not need a SSS, but it will I am sure one day so they can have natural grass, New York City will have a sight and stadium plan worked out within the 5 boroughs, most likely Randall Island within the next 3 years with it built within 5 years. Orlando's stadium is going to be bad ass, like SKC's and will be in a perfect location for soccer. The games will be very intimate and the people of Orlando and Tampa will be able to drink at the bars downtown, march to the games and watch Kaka and Ronaldinho in a pact, sold out stadium. Citrus bowl would not give you that same feel.

No, I'm saying an additional stadium is an utter waste of money after pouring 200 million into the existing one. The need for a "soccer specific" stadium is obviously bull--it. Probably cooked up by PR so he'd be in a position to reap profits from naming rights and concessions.

I want to be selfish too! I've been to the citrus bowl enough times to want to take multiple showers after feeling like I've visited another 3rd world country stadium. It just does not cut it.

If you've been to MLS specific stadiums, it is a fantastic experience - modern, mostly no turf, good food, super atmosphere, a good time had by all.

Urban re/development is part of how things get better. Yes, people lose - it happens in our society. If you feel like you lost out on a $50M request on a property that is valued at $700K (and you were offered $1.4 and balked), well then maybe you need to look at yourself in the mirror. Greed is good, right?

This from the same guy who just got counseled by his supervisor for sleeping on the job. Another person who feels like they are entitled to everything because they are breathing. When you have spent the time and energy to bring enough people together to spend more than $100 on your beer tab (let along millions on a MLS team and stadium), come back and let us know how that went... bet you won't be back to share a real story anywhere close to something like that. Um, an OC/Rush alliance is why OC got DA in the first place. Rush has since walked away from it since OC was once again not honoring what was agreed upon. Perhaps they should have stayed and fought but that didn't happen.

This is laughable. Orlando drove Shaq, Penny, T-Mac, Dwight away from this one sport town. Why? Why would this town run the best players the team ever had away? I will tell you why. Orlando is a bunch of losers. We will never lose anything but the drunk, bong smoking Arena Bowl.

Do you want to know a real sports town? Look at Chicago, New York, Boston and Seattle. These are towns that love their teams. They support the ownership and the players. They don't always win but they always have fans. They always have people who want their teams to win.

What do we have in Orlando?
We can't get MLB. Huge fail!
We can't get NFL. Joke!

So what do we get? We get a chance to build a MLS program. Who cares if soccer is the 4th sport in America. We don't have squat! Our NBA team is in the dictionary next to the definition of "Never was been". I would rather be the best MLS market than the worst NBA, NFL or MLB market.

We have diversity. We have great weather. We could make Orlando the best MLS story since the Galaxy.
