Easy to explain - SRI has a new rule that says it will grant no more than 5 releases per team to RI residents who play for an out of state club. Meaning: if the Massachusetts FC has 6 girls from RI on their U12 team roster, SRI will only grant 5 of those girls releases. The 6th girl is out of luck.

It's SRI's new way of trying to force RI kids to play for SRI clubs.

Sounds more like SRI thinks they own the kids. Perhaps they can be branded like cattle so everyone knows they are from RI

It's ridiculous because 100% of the Wave's U12 team are RI residents (in fact, all but 1 player is from Cumberland). SRI won't accept the Wave as a member club, so,l starting next year, they can't play in the state cup.

SRI thinks its doing its member clubs a favor by creating these rules. But, in fact, they're just encouraging SRI clubs to remain mediocre at best.
          you can't register with both?

On what grounds do they justify that? Whoever thought that rule up is a fool. That wouldnt stand up to any court challenge

If this is true this is just another example of why SRI cares more about SRI than they do the players. SRI is pissed because some very good players from U13 to U18 have decided to play in Mass becasue the soccer in RI does not met thier needs. so this is how they are going to try and stop it. They are going to make matetrs worse for themselves. Here is anovel idea. Fix the level of soccer in RI and the kids will stay on thier own.

                  This is a good question.

A fix for this stupid SRI rule would be for Mass Youth Soccer to simply stop requiring releases for RI kids to play on Mass clubs.

The release is only to ensure that parents understand that their kid is not insured by SRI insurance. To get around the rule, all Mass Youth Soccer needs to do is have a parent sign a form which acknowledges that Mass Youth Soccer is providing insurance for their child even though that child lives in RI.

Yes, SRI thinks they OWN all RI kids who play soccer. If you ever talked with one of the SRI officials about this topic, you wouldn't believe how out of touch they are with their own constituency. They make more and more rules. It's like they are East Germans building the Berlin Wall to keep their citizens from fleeing East Germany. How'd that work out?

                        Go to Region 1 website

Can SRI really do this? Do they think that the Dad of the 6th RI girl who makes a Mass team is going to just say "oh, I guess you can't play for Mass FC because Soccer-RI says so..."

You tell me. Personally I think they're idiots for even trying. What nerve to try to dictate to parents where their kids hhave to play soccer. "You vill play for SRI clubs!"
