Most def a power struggle. US Soccer is lucky they didn't have to start from the ground up. They got some ECNL clubs with proven track records to partner with them. They can claim some immediate success.

With only 23 players expected to be in each age group's DA, only 11-12 girls from each birth year will be participating. If they don't end up on a national team they should still be in a great position to attend, play in college, or go play in Europe. In the meantime we can enjoy the play of ECNL's Pugh.

ECNL looked like a copy of the boys DA basic set up with a few differences. Who copied who?

Who cares - the bigger question is does GDA need to copy either? If it were really just about the top talent they should have done something radically different. Instead they copied what was out there

        - the boys side with their very questionable results, but at least a free-to-play path for some which won't happen on the girls side
        - ECNL which does a great job producing college talent but USSF claims isn't doing it's job with NT talent. But if it's doing such a bad job why is USSF copying it? Oh yea....they want to put ECNL out of business.

They are copying the boys DA more than ECNL. Except for the free part darn it!

I am very, very surprised NY Surf is not heading to FC Stars. The girls side has a ton of ECNL clubs including Eclipse.

For a club who expects a GDA and to become an ECNL club you'd think they'd go to Boston and start playing against top area dogs like PDA.

Except that they're trying to land all the ECNL clubs so it still is basically ECNL.

And no, no freebies - maybe one scholarship per team. Maybe reduced fees but still the same travel. Big savings whoop.

NY Surf is heading to EM

                https://events.gotsport.com/events/t...&eventid=50958

NY Surf is not going to earn a national girls rep like SD Surf by playing local town teams.

Meanwhile even EM is sending several teams to FC Stars. Can't use the excuse of playing in both.

Good tournament. NY Surf missed the boat on this one.

And I read they get soccer balls from Nike. Come on Nike. Can't you do better than a few balls after all those cleats we buy?

Yes getting a free ball will be the difference maker between being able to afford GDA fees or not.

Wish parents would put more pressure on all these leagues and clubs to compete on price. Where is the value play in youth sports? I have multiple players and I am ready for it! Can some NY club please have a sale or some coupons or something.

Not all are at EM - some are playing Spirit instead...regarding EM I wonder if they are maybe showing reciprocity to a mutual High level local club to ensure EM supports their future tourney? I know SoCal clubs are close and support each other's tourneys.

Not at all - South Shore Select who are number 1 in MA don't even support Stars as they feel it's not top rated! South Shore is headed to Spirit where NY Surf and partner Atletico are headed!

Spirit is better and bigger than Stars
