I applaud what US Soccer has done on the men’s side verse th Women’s. For one thing they are bracing using European based American players much more. When Jurgen spoke about going to Europe to train/play he was vilified by MLS/US Soccer. For the Olympics they tried to qualify with a young group with a young coach. At least you have to applaud the effort by seeing what the young talent can do. For the Gold Cup you have to applaud Berhalter using such a young group to win the cup. He knows what he has as far as his European based players but now he is playing all the kids to see which of those are ready to play for the National team. The men’s side are embracing this new young crop of talent. The women’s side is just about marketing and money. Having this team at the Olympics with the median age of 30.9 is disgraceful.

Bunch of parents here that were never part of it, don’t know what it stood for, can’t tell how it was implemented outside of NJ - all jumping on with opinions.
a) 10 month training- never really happened at PDA because the coaches were busy with Rutgers, so coaches were available for 4-5 months maximum
b) 3 training sessions - that also didn’t happen at PDA because PDA kept the same fee structure as ECNL and didn’t think it was worth it in the first place
c) video review - never happened because PDA coaches were only paying attention to future Rutgers players, and lest be honest, they couldn’t tell a difference between a volley and pass, or weak and dominant foot
d) stuck with the 23-30 players on the team
Can’t blame PDA for trying to keep the money flowing, but that’s what really happened here. PDA wanted to keep the gravy train rolling rather than improve soccer development in the GDA spirit.
Other than that, GDA had massive problems with:
- useless travel idea
- cost and availability in urban areas
- lack of planned training. Eg Boys DA would be playing small field futsal in winter but GDA had nothing organized.
Obviously none of these issues are addressed by ECNL or GAL.
Still we have a bunch of parents bitching and blaming instead of looking for solutions.

People. We can blame left and right. Here's the truth: The roster is old but the players that were left off it still aren't better than the veterans and it may get worst.
The rest of the world plays because they enjoy it and or want to be a professional. Here, we want status and college soccer!! Woo!!
And we're obsessed with ecnl when the truth is, the best coaches aren't even at these clubs. Pda and MF. Old school style and money makers. Then you go to college. Play kick and run for three months over four years while the rest of the world has a true academy set up and plays all year. 9.9 college scholarships with crazy tuition. How does that make sense after paying atleast over $10K over the years for youth soccer?
Bottom line is: If you want better results, culture has to change here. The rest of the world lives the game. They sit down and watch games together. We sit down and eat hot dogs.
We won't be there yet until the current youth become parents in 15 to 20 years.
In the meantime, someone needs to stop these leagues and showcases from charging crazy money. That would lower costs significantly and also attract more full time professionals to help our kids.

With more kids dropping out of soccer than any other sport that cultural shift is even less likely to happen. Face it, no one pays attention to women's soccer except for these international events. A losing team won't help. The men's team no longer even qualifies. Many of the biggest fans in the US came from soccer-loving nations. Americans watch football, the kind with the weird ball.

Didn’t you just see an American win Champions league? For the first time these top eagles are now acting and bringing more Americans than ever to train/play in Europe. This was Klinnesmann’s dream when he took over te American team and saw how behind they were both in skill and technique. The game itsel was too slow and deliberate and he got slammed by MLS & US Soccer who caved in to MLS. The future right now is much brighter with the European based kids that beat Mexic and the MLS kids performing well in the Gold Cup. The women’s team is about to enter a dark period till they start a new cycle. There loo today was embarrassing and they have lost there mystique and mojo. Other countries know they can beat this group.
I don’t know how or why but they are just much better. It’s shocking to watch little kids 5-10 yrs old using body fronts, step overs at speed w/o looking at the ball.
I honestly believe the multitude of sports in the US have watered down the pool of players.
