Very tough match to watch especially with this group that has achieved so much in the last decade. With out Ertz they could have lost today. She is the only link up with the 3 upfront. To hear the Coach call this a “professional result” just shows how little faith he has with this group. They played not to lose to Sam Kerr, just one player scared this group. The years and mileage are showing with this group and their bravado & swagger are gone. US Soccer knew going in that this group as a team peaked at the last WC and they gave this group a shot to win the Gold off of that victory. This team was all about marketing and not about merit. The payers know once these games are done regardless the outcome a new cycle must begin. Mia Hamm, Brandi Chastain and that group knew it as well when there time was up to the next generation. It was a great run for many years but unfortunately it’s not going to end well in Tokyo. Morgan, Lloyd, Rapinoe, Heath & Press, not good enough.

Now they play a Netherlands team that scored 21 goals over 3 games and ranked #4. If the make it then they play the winner of #7 CAN v #8 BRZ. Last meeting vs CAN was a 1-0 win while Brazil was a 2-0 win back during She Believes. They don't have the young ones playing to keep up and they could lose to Canada. Even if they win that they will most likely face Sweden again who has had the US's number since Rio. Sure the US has won some friendlies against them but have not won a major tournament against them over the last few years.

You really can’t blame the coach for playing defensive today and playing not to lose to Sam Kerr. He knew that he had to take this group through the Olympics to end this cycle. This team was not picked of merit but rather for marketing by US Soccer. They were playing to be the first to win the Olympics after winning a WC. Sad to see Rapinoe playing with her head down and no swagger. She, nor the other players look like they are having fun. No swagger, no confidence, no attack minded offense. Without Ertz they are lost. If she didn’t play today they could have lost again. Is there anyone who thinks they can score against the Netherlands on Friday?
