MF Shore girls should play this. They just dominated at the junior elite clinic at UNC....

That's simply not true. If a player from anywhere proved capable (in their eyes) of playing the way they wanted, and would be able to commit in the manner they wanted, of course they were welcome.

But, if a great player in another league is a one-trick pony and has proven their commitment to the game stops for 3 months for social reasons, then no, they won't take that player. And, they shouldn't.

So, the campaign to ensure the initiative failed was successful. We all reap what we sow. Nobody cares, though....they'll cheer them when they win, ignore them when the fail, and still only really worry about scholarship dollars.

Did you actually watch the match? From the moment the match began the USA team was out run, out hustled and out played. From the get go Sweden hit the “ground running” with their speed, quickness and athleticism. The USA were very skillful yet Sweden had no problem shutting them down. The youth and enthusiasm of the younger Swede team showed while the tired old legs and years also showed. This smackdown this morning had nothing to do with skill or technical development but rather a seasoned veteran group that should have ended its cycle years ago. Enough with you skill argument. Today’s loss was about speed of play and exploiting open spaces that slow skill players could not keep up!

Great summary. I have never seen the USWNT on their heels like they were today. It is eye opening for certain.

It was only a matter of time. Globally female soccer acceptance got off to a very slow start. Cultural differences. Now that this has shifted, Europe will continue to gain and even surpass US women’s soccer. The European model continues to expose the flaws in US Soccer.

That is absolutely true. Think about all the American players they gave it a shot playing in Europe these last few years. What players have succeeded? Rose LaVelle who is seen as the next generation for USA couldn’t get on the pitch! Not one single player other than Sam Méwis has gotten any significant playing time. Is Alex Morgan, Tobin Heath, Christen Press, Carli Lloyd and Meghan Rapinoe the best offense this country can produce? Maybe four years ago but that moment has passed them bye. Time to face the same reality as have Bradley & Altidore.

I think you are proving the point. When the WNT can't physically outmatch opponents they have no recourse. Sweden kept the ball, move swiftly through the midfield while the WNT looked bewildered.

Make no mistake, Sweden out-skilled the WNT. This was not as simple as the WNT being too old.

Why are we surprised? We've been going down this path for several years and when the issue was pointed out, the response was "We just won the WC, how bad can we be?"

Let's stop with pushing pure athleticism in the game as the be-all/end-all and let's play some soccer. You know...let's play WITH the ball and not run after it all afternoon.

That would require ECNL clubs to change their philosophy so it ain’t happening.

Agree on both points. As a fan of the game, and the desire to see it succeed here, it makes me sad.

I get why those clubs and parents don't care about that. Can't say I blame them. But, they better be willing to accept the results and not whine about what happened to the USWNT and try to blame the only entity who tried to do something about it.
