And both are perfectly.
That elitist attitude is hurting soccer. Between that, the cost and travel kids are dropping out of the sport much faster than other sports. all kids should be encouraged to play at any level they want/is a good fit for them in terms of skills, interest, and budget. Instead, by middle school the the message they get is "if you're not at the highest level/going to play in college, why are you bothering?"

Great post! That’s all you hear from the academies. If you’re not playing GA by 13-14 you have virtually no chance to play in college. In the meantime the overall % for all is only 1% or so regardless of where you play. Save your hard earned cash enjoy the game and play for the local town club for peanuts.

Preach!! So many talented kids don’t continue to play because they can’t afford the crazy cost. Best post

Are you an insider at MatchFit “Academy” at Mercer? :) They do have many daddy coaches tag along their daughters.

Who is sending them that message? Honestly, I think a lot of it is peer pressure rather than the clubs or even the parents. A kid playing at the local town team might look at his/her friends who are playing at a "higher level" club might not feel great about it. Or they may look at their high school team and see that most of the starters play at the higher level clubs and think they won't even get a shot to play high school, so why bother? Or that they have a better shot at playing another sport in high school like field hockey or lacrosse because kids start those sports at a later age and they can be more competitive at them.

                  Nah, it’s not that.

No it definitely isn't that. It's the parents that push their kids into "high exposure" clubs for college recruiting
