    Parent coaches

Would you have your player join a competitive team (e.g. playing EDP or higher) with a coach or coaches whose children are on the team?

(Yes, yes, wise guys. Yes. I know there are other competitive leagues I may not be aware of and EDP may not be "the thing".)

Personally if it is an "academy", I would think it's not worth $2-3K as the whole team would be built up the success of the coach's kid, not the team. Town clubs, I guess it depends.

    Thoughts?

Nope, not even if the person is qualified for that level - and many times they are not qualified. You're paying for a professional coach. Further, it's rare that a parent coach doesn't favor their own kid and/or their kids' friends. Even when they don't seem to, the other parents are forever watching every move. It's not worth the headaches.

Clubs are free to hire parents a) if they are qualified and b) if they don't coach their own kids.

      Agreed !

Hard enough to find a good development coach. If it’s a parent coach chances are that’s another obstacle. Our personal experience with parent coaches is that they have been transparently biased in positioning their kid on the field despite mistakes and they usually play somewhere in the middle.

No way! Been there and the coaches were ridiculous favoring their kids and were jealous of other Strong players and felt threatened so would not play the ones that they felt threatened by. Ruined the team.

Look at the Real 06 team coached by a dad. You guys are clueless about the sport. Does not matter if dad or not if you can coach you can coach. They beat so called pro coaches by double digits. Take that.

No way! There will ALWAYS be a bias, ALWAYS. Yes, they will tell you they treat their kid the same as everyone else, but that is simply impossible. No parent should be coaching their child at that level.

One Real team won a single game by a margin, with no context, and this makes Real into the super duper academy of the world? Maybe you are the Real dad coach? In which case, sorry but no one wants their kid to play for your team.

Btw you known there’s a difference between a coach who is also a dad and a dad-coach, right?

Academies allow this?? Doesn’t sound very professional to me. I would be very skeptical. definitely wouldn’t make me comfortable.

Made the mistake twice. Different clubs/teams. Never. Ever. Again. All the same reasons as posted… in the long run for most of these cases it’s daddy ball.

Great dad coach and great club. What’s wrong with that? Pay no attention to these haters from fake academies that wish they had what Real has. Real training and development, coupled with the motto of quality over quantity. Anything to spin bs propaganda. Bradley on the USMT coached his son. Did you kool aid academy drinkers have a problem with that?

Never. Conflict of interest. If you are paying for a professional coach the relationship should be void of any such bias and or conflicts.

                              Another clueless post.

The reality is that the kid of the parent coach always gets treated tougher than the others.
