CSA North Bergen Pre-Academy, CSA North Bergen Pre-Academy 2, CSA Monmouth Green & White and TSF Academy Blue & White will all be out of EDP and in the North East Academy League starting in the fall of 2022. The Following year PDA will join that group and be in the MLS Next league with their top teams and 2nd teams. The New York Red Bulls pre-Academy teams also leaves EDP this Fall (Sep 2022) and play in the Acela league with Philadelphia Union and Real JFC among other top PA/DE teams before moving to the MLS Next league. On top of all of those teams no longer playing in EDP... Both STA and Match Fit play in the ECNL league with their 2nd teams playing ECRL. PDA has their 2nd or 3rd teams play in the ECNL league as well after MLS Next teams. Then Morris Elite plays in the USL league. Furthermore, rosters expand as the teams move from 9v9 to 11v11. You have to figure a lot of the top players from teams not listed earlier will join those teams further weakening the remaining teams. So in total: 2 CSA North teams, 2 CSA Monmouth teams, 2 TSF teams, 3/4 PDA teams, 2 Real JFC teams, 2 Match Fit teams, 2 STA teams and 1 Morris Elite team, plus the kids that are lucky enough from NJ to make an MLS Academy like NY Red Bull, NYC FC or Philadelphia Union..... all those kids say good-bye to EDP within the next year or 2. The talent level of EDP overall plummets. Approximately 18 or so 11v11 teams will be gone from EDP with the majority of them being the highest level teams/kids.

There will still be some good talent left in EDP, just much, much less. Some families wont like the travel that is required in those leagues or the fact that MLS doesnt allow the majority of players to play on their HS teams. EDP manages the Mid Atlantic conferences for those teams that are left behind to provide them some better competition and that is team by team basis instead of entire clubs being in the other leagues. That will mix some of the better NJ teams with some of the better PA teams that aren't playing in the top leagues to get them better league games during the season. The same thing happens in the other states as well though so the top PA teams will be in MLS next and ECNL too..

Those teams that leave for other leagues will not only be playing in different leagues, but also in different tournaments/ showcases as well. Example MLS Showcase in CA or FL or ECNL showcases in CA, AZ, SC, FL, TX or VA. Those teams wont be going to tournaments like Jeff Cup or any of the EDP Cups and clubs from outside the leagues are not allowed to enter the tournaments/showcases.

Thank you - very good information. What is the difference between MLS next and ECNL?

Very good summary. Just a couple more clarifying comments. Acela and NEAL start at u11 in a more limited fashion. They expand at U12 to the extent that NEAL runs a BLUE and WHITE NEAL League. Blue being the "A" team and white the "B" team. At U13 NEAL contracts back to one league for the the B team of the MLS next teams. Sometimes called the MLS Next 2.

Morris Elite and the USL do not currently have a U13 league. I believe it starts at U15 with plans to develop the younger age groups, but Morris Elite plays USYS for now at U13.

Adding to the alphabet mess, don't forget that the USYS has officially announced the Elite 64 League as well. Too early to know who this will include in NJ. This would seem to be the most likely landing spot for a club like FA if they can gain acceptance, but may be a stretch based on available spots if the STA, PDA or CSAs apply for their lower level teams.

STA found a loophole and got themselves into USL 2. A lot of these leagues want to see an outlet for the older teams i.e. the U17-19 kids. If a program is not quality top to bottom the better leagues will pass on them. Not sure what USYS does for the older teams but without decent teams from U15 up it’s going to be hard for a club like FA, or Liverpool etc to get into a better league.

also you have other clubs like FC Copa (USL2) and TSF who compete in the better leagues and have not started to bring in players at the 2011 age. USL2 is basically a holding league (most players don’t get paid) for better college players to play and still get looks from pro teams. That why RB U23 are unofficially RB3 and look to bring these guys in after college.

Question… do any of the kids that play on the any of the top ranked teams play any other sport besides soccer? My son’s schedule is demanding with practices and games now and I’m not sure when to fit in another sport. Just feel like he should try other things too. Not to get burnt out with just once sport at this young. Anyone thinking the same?

My child is higher tier edp player at this moment, dicscovering more sports like basketball and cross country. covid and the subsequent policies have stunted kids and casual rec new sports participation. I would like for soccer to continue, but have no issue with my child exploring new sports and activities. I believe that if the natural atheltism is presnt and when genes kick in, my child can quickly "catch up" to kids that have been practicing daily and play 1-2 games per weekend. Another added benefit if a significant reduction of a non-contact injury at a young age

Go to their practices and see for your self. Better yet go to one of their games and see if you like what you see.
