Did anyone hear from the players that the evaluators stayed that they weren’t looking for ball hogs yet that’s some of the players they are offering spots to ? Or that the kids that went ahead and ball hogged weren’t corrected . So you would think that they wouldn’t be picked but then they go ahead and picked them. Now in the meantime the kids that don’t ball hog are being left behind . No wonder why we suck in the world stage of soccer...Comment

I think that is an inaccurate observation - I don’t think evaluators are neccessarily looking for one or the other, but rather the ability to make the right decision at the right time. You can take someone on and loose the ball - does not mean it was the wrong decision. Likewise you can pass all day - not always the right call either. So there is a balance - one option is not right or wrong. It’s about IQ and decision making.Comment

Well, I never said ALL ball hogs got picked. But I know for a fact that they allowed ball hogging and picked some obviously distinctive ball hogs. I’m not talking about players that take the ball and make opportunities for themselves often, I’m talking about the ones that get the ball and continuously dribble into pressure and lose the ball consistently bc of that. They said “we aren’t looking for ball hogs” yet when they allow the ball hogs to do that, the kids that aren’t ball hogging and that actually went ahead and listened to the instructions given PRIOR TO THE START OF THE TRYOUTS , don’t get a chance to show what they got. Instead, only defenders and ball hogs get to show their craft while all others have to have a much less time on the ball. Agree 100% BUT ball hog definition is that player that never passes and dribbles right into pressure only. Dribbling a lot but making the right dribble and pass is the right decision often. Passing all day isn’t right either. But I never said it was one or the other only. The good striker isn’t a ball hog. Remember what a ball hog is . A ball hog never lets go of the ball even when it’s irrational or down right futile to drive straight to the other team with no chance of succeeding alone. It’s a team sport . It’s not tennis or MMA...Yes individual development is important but in the context of a team sport that requires a team effort where everyone develops together in their respective areas of comfort or aptitude ( defense, mid or front ). But no one develops when the focus is on the ball hogs because ball hogs may win you some games. You can’t pass all day but you can’t ball hog all day either.
