What email are you referring to? I don't have any of that verbiage in any emails I received. I have seen different emails from parents who complained about stage 2 time issues with tournaments but those didn't go out to everyone who made stage 2.

Any lawyer can tell you that accepting money (the tryout fee) for goods promised (specified dates for tryouts for selection onto ODP team) constitutes a binding contract and absolutely constitutes fraud if they bypass the selection process for those that did not attend and even more so for those that had not paid. Fun thing about digital payments, they are time stamped.

With all that - The best way they could handle this is a final callback of all stage 2 players. The talent might not have looked as good as players who did show up may have also played in multiple games already and traveled from location to tryout as well as those not pushing 100% due to having multiple matches later on. You can't brush these players aside for ones who didn't even come as you cannot compare the 2 subjectively. Galanis wouldn't need to pay for a field as he has plenty of space with Medford Strikers and Universal Soccer.
I believe this was the email that was referenced...

"We are sorry to hear that you are unable to the second stage NJ ODP try-out. As we proceed with the scheduled tryout, we will invite injured and ill players to our first training. We are using data and evaluations from the first round of tryouts and well as (if applicable) data from last season to make our selections. If we do not feel that the talent levels at the second phase try-out will provide to us the opportunity to form effective teams, we will explore additional sessions.

Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate every situation based upon the various soccer and non-soccer activities that take place this time of the year. Thank you for your continued interest in the program.

    Sincerely,
    NJ Youth Soccer

Like the person said, that went to those that complained about conflicts.

The entire process is shady, no wonder US Soccer was attempting to move away from ODP with DA.

        Agree, very shady.

I think everyone needs to get over themselves here. Is the process under the table? Yes. Should they disallow anyone that wasn't able to at least one tryout? Yes. Is that they way other things work in youth soccer? On the whole, no. There are a ton of shady coaches and clubs out there, so the fact the ODP may (no confirmation from anyone who actually works there btw) do something contrary to the stated process isn't a surprise. As another poster said, I think they should work with what they were given and be done with it. If the NJ ODP gets slaughtered in friendlies with other states because of the talent gap, then it will do two things: 1-tell ODP they shouldn't have acted like dip****s and rammed through a tryout process that didn't need to be so short and inflexible. 2-tell parents that their kid really isn't as good as they thought. You don't see that talent gap until/unless you play actual higher level teams. You can be in the top flight of MOSA and think you are king **** (let's forget that it's your kid that actually plays), and then play PDA Blue in a tournament and get demolished in five minutes.

            AMEN

EPA ODP doesn't even have tryouts until this weekend so why the rush and poor planning for stage 2 on a known major tournament weekend?

              crazy times

The fact that ODP just sent out email about this thread is absurd. This board is fun but I rarely put much credence to what I read here.

That being said, your kid may or may not make ODP. There is no conspiracy. Different evaluators see different things. Take your above average kid to multiple top clubs competing for spots, and unless that are standout talent(top 5%) some coaches will like what they see others will shrug their shoulders. My kids have been on both sides and as long as someone likes what they see, advocates for them and commits to their development why not be happy. Hate to burst anyone's bubble but the good ole boy system exists everywhere from kids soccer all the way to the white house. In a perfect world it wouldn't but all this is subjective anyways...hard to keep it out.

While we don’t intend to do this regularly, we reach out with an update to address comments pointed out to us on public facing soccer message boards. We take extreme pride in the recent growth of NJ ODP and, therefore, provide context for misinformation being distributed.

Specifically, there is a thread spreading the rumor that the ODP player selection notification process being pushed back was because there was not enough talent at tryouts and we are using this time to recruit players. Please know this is simply inaccurate.

Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, we were pleased to have experienced an increase in tryout participation. Further, that reality has provided us the opportunity to explore expanding the ODP opportunities given the quality of players we evaluated.

We understand the importance of this selection process and its impact on participants. We made the difficult decision to take a few extra days to make sure we complete this professionally rather than complete it quickly.

We sincerely appreciate your support and wish you a great weekend.

                Sincerely,
                NJ Youth Soccer

On the bright side, this shows that they do care. That is a good sign.

So Invites are starting to go out now...others I assume are getting them?
How many teams are there at each age group, any one know?
My daughter is 2009 and the letter says Final Team. So is there just one team at this age group?

My 09 son got a spot.

He plays in a non-elite town team. We have only recently moved to the state and knew absolutely no one involved with the try-outs or NJ Soccer. He attended all the sessions.

The process seemed fair to me.

Now I am just trying to decide if the program is worth the price.
