Not looking to get into whether this is a good idea or a bad idea. Just want some clarification. My daughter is in 7th grade. The cut off for grades in our town is October 31st. Her birthday is in September. She is a 2012. If this new August 1 to July 31 timeline happens does she stay with her current team (in terms of year) or does she get bumped down?

It's too early for 'clarification' because nothing has been announced so nobody knows how all the tiny details will play out.

Nothing prevents a club from allowing a player to play up and not disrupt team’s dynamics already established.

What % of players are trapped? Doubt the entire system is flagging just to accommodate a very small segment of the entire ecosystem given that 50-70% of those 8th graders will quit during HS. The change will happen. Stuff gets moved around and then settles again. World not ending. Scholarships are still out there for the taking.

if MLSn stays birth year and ECNL makes the move, then on the boys side watch the talented May/Jun/Jul ECNL kids move to MLSn and watch the talented Aug/Sep/Oct MLSn kids move to ECNL - what a sh#t show

Why is it August 1 when nearly every state has September 1 as the age cut off for new students. I guess someone's kid on the board has a child with an August birthdate. You can easily look it up. every state is September 1 but soccer is August 1. So there you go this is not truly about grade.

Kids born in August will be playing down in grade. So a 7th grader who is one of the youngest in his/her class in school will play with kids a grade lower. Does this make any sense?

8/1 is the earliest cutoff, so it makes perfect sense.
