Yes the girls will play their age group and up when appropriate as dictated by MFA Coaches. The girl that left was due to ECNL travels being overwhelming for her family - they opted to play local (nothing wrong with that). The girls’ parents obviously trust their development to MFA coaching staff perhaps you should let them be.

The MFA 2012 team will be solid whether the girls are all playing their age or not. It’s all about development of each player to her full potential and not just winning games or tournaments unless when it truly matters. Fortunately MFA has the wonderful luxury of deciding how best to use these wonderful players to both advance the club, team, and their skills. The future looks very bright

They make a good point though. Some trolls hating on MFA as usual and simply stating that you take the three best players from any team and it weakens them. It doesn't dismiss the role of the other players but there is always going to be a variation of talent on any team. Look at the 2009 PDA team that just won the Nationals. The three MFA kids were the ones that took them over the edge in terms of achieving such a great accomplishment but it doesn't take anything away from the rest of the team. Realistically without those three girls they don't win the National Title.

Out of curiosity why doesn’t MFA have a U11 pre-Ecnl team? For example they begin pre-Ecnl with U12 instead of U11. Last year 2012g played EDP as U11. ECNL is usually consistent across the country and pre-Ecnl is U11 and U12.

Good question and you can substitute your question by switching MFA with PDA or any other ECNL North Atlantic club and pondering whether any of them had a U11 Pre ECNL team or their 2012 teams played in EDP like MFA. All other NA Clubs have to commit to participating in a U11 Pre ECNL division in order to hold competitions at that level. It’s simply not up to MFA.

Are players no longer expected to be be “average” to play their age and those above average challenged by playing up?

This much ado about nothing. A nothing-burger!!! Call the players whatever gets you off but it won’t change the fact they are doing well for themselves and making the club proud as well as their parents. MFA deserves loads of credit for delivering such wonderful results with a bunch of “average” players. Speaks to the effectiveness of the coaches and the overachieving feat of the players. Kudos to them all!!!
