other countries may close the gap as they build critical mass, but doing that is extremely difficult. Nowhere else in the world do parents PAY to continue playing organized soccer at the level the USA do. Nowhere. That creates a HUGE volume disparity that no one will ever replicate. the only way other countries can compete is IF enough women of the same nationality play in high level leagues around the world. That means based on talent alone, someone has to want to PAY THEM to play. WHy do you think the USA has NEVER won the U-17 WC....won the U-20 occasionally 2012 last time and then all of a sudden wins world cups at full NT level?. Ill give you a clue, its not the spectacular "development" that happens after u-20. Its because elsewhere in the world not enough women continue to play. The standard required to have a pro club in europe want to PAY YOU to play is extremely high, so the numbers decline.

Winning allows the USA to control the narrative and frankly too few people actually pay attention outside of the WC and maybe Olympics

Soccer is a team game Its like having no weight classes in boxing and cheering because a heavyweight KOs flyweights. Then saying he is doing it because he is "better" . Everything requires context. If you dont want to participate , cool, but some of us are enjoying the discussion
Not sure what you are talking about me not participating? I guess this is only for people who think the US is doing something wrong? I never said it had anything to do with men? Where did you get that impression. The men aren’t even close to the women in terms of world rankings yet it’s the women who are getting chastised. It’s not numbers alone. If you read the article posted the USA had a twenty year advantage. Numbers can help but it’s not a deal maker. Look at the mens side. If numbers mattered China, India, Brazil and USA would dominate. It’s just about 25 people being the best team at that particular time.

We also have big issues with player identification and coaching.
National federations are not going to move the needle abroad. They sit on top of a pro Cub based pyramid. Club owners decide how they spend thier cash and on who. Eg Horan going to OL is potentially taking the spot of a young french player. OL dont care. They want to win the CL and the French League. Totally different priority. Look at the Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City - full of non England eligible talent. Players like Russo, Wubben Moy, Salmon etc had to leave the UK to get more PT We never had great coaching orr player ID, but we did nont need it. The in built advantage was so big. We are not a soccer smart country. but because we won WCs for women, we act like we are.

You said disgruntled soccer experts. They are. they have failed to actually do anything but pick the same players at almost every level instead of building on their massive edge. That is lazy and complacent. Your china an india comments are just dumb. its numbers PLAYING not just numbers and many other cultural factors. the cost of education etc. Keep your head in the sand.

Now they look at the u20 team get beat by Netherlands and Japan which they deem to be slower, smaller, smarter! This enrages the parents even more. However the thing that is missing is that the senior team is very successful and they typically are bigger, faster, stronger, along with the ability to play chess on the field. So if you want to field teams like this you need to weed through many players and we know the u20 team will only give the senior team about 3 players! They will most likely be the prototypical American soccer player. They will be trained and developed and will help our senior team be at the top of the woman’s game. Sorry but it’s just what is happening and will continue to happen until the USWNT is not even competitive.
are you being serious? they will be trained and developed....where and by who? this notion that 4 camps a year with NT coaches = development is idiotic. Go listen to a top College coach on the women's side. Most will tell you that they have no time for development in season. the only time they can do that is spring where there are limited games. It blows my mind the narratives people spin that make no sense.

Ok, my response, please post a recent article to prove that women in other countries are dropping out before the world cup.

If i can’t bring up the absolutely hypocrisy of the level of support right now between the men and women on this forum, what’s the sense in having a debate? It is absolutely ridiculous to think our women will continue to dominate like we once did. But you know this board is filled with complainers and armchair quarterbacks. I

China never dominated in gymnastics, until they decided they wanted to dominate in gymnastics :)

Yes but putting butts in the seats will attract advertisers and sponsorships. If you make a point to start watching on tv/streaming even better. We all know that big tv deals is how all sports foreign and domestic make their money.

So basically you are saying we are getting lucky bc the other countries stop playing. We are actually not the top but win by lack of competition. Good point. Example when you see the teams they play some are thrown together day before. You make a good point. Never thought of it that way.

ask the WNBA how that's working out for them. Soccer doesn't have nearly the same popularity as basketball either. The WNT gets attention every few years for international competitions and that's about it.
