your choice. I would not either, but that is their choice

If that was the case why do we need U23? Can you compare the level of quality between the Olympics and the world cup? Players continue to develop to their mid twenties. Lloyd didn't reach her potential until she was in her mid-late twenties. Shows how much you know about the game.

Parents are way too involved for that to happen and the business of soccer here is at youth level. Motives are mostly $$$$$$ based
Well let's do the math. There are about 400k girls participating in highschool soccer in the US, this number has been steadily increasing by about 3% for the last 10 years. If you take 1% of that you end up with 4k players. That means that you get roughly 11.7 girls per team.

Do you think that 1% of players could be quality?

"We picked the wrong players" Doesn't the coach pick the team? I don't remember anyone asking me for input. The coach is supposed to layout the formation, strategy and the players are supposed to execute. If a player is not executing the game plan they come out.

players learn how to apply what they have more efficiently. They gain experience. Read situations better etc but it’s extremely rare that the increase their toolbox. I dint care how much you think I know about the game.

Unlikely based on how they are selected.

I believe if the men’s National team were as successful as the women’s team everyone would be very proud and supportive. Unfortunately the woman’s side is getting bashed bc the U-whatever team isn’t playing up to a standard that disgruntled “soccer experts” have. The senior team is still wildly successful and still are at the top of women’s soccer. It’s not their fault that the rest of the world woke up and started concentrating on women’s soccer and leveled the playing field. It’s sports and we as humans are created equally. We don’t simply create better soccer players here. We just were first to the dance of training women like men. Wake up and relax.

I was referring to the players chosen overall as part of the u20 mix. Majority of the conversation has been about this. The process goes like this- U15 regional ID clinic- which is local coaches select a few of their players to attend. Then after the regional pool kids get selected for camps. At the camps they then select for team. There are a lot of favors, favorites which is normal but also players that are overlooked bc they lack connections. By U20 a few continue on from U15 as they are already experienced, in the mix. Other come in from college and this year the pro situation.

the coach for tournament doesn’t choose the players they choose which of those players play and the style. We failed at the entire process. Choosing the right players to begin with and then on field. There are others playing in college right now that are peaking but not part of the “crest”. So there you have it.

Appreciate your perspective. It’s a good way to see it. But women have been playing soccer in the US and abroad for years. Recognized only Since the 1970’s in England but That’s 40+ years so it’s not brand new. Who do you think Wambach played against? The rest of the world didn’t just wake up. They have always been there- which is why the press and “public soccer “ experts (majority who were former USWNT and pro players!) have been perplexed by this showing. Just listen to their comments and read the press- not only here.

Yeah I'm not a fan but we are a different generation. It's also just one part of recruiting and is more a supplement than a necessity. Plenty of players have no trouble being recruited without it.

Sorry but if you read this article you will see we were first to the dance. Countries in the eastern bloc of Europe are still not caught up and will also be in the picture soon enough too! We will never dominate like we once did there is too much competition in the world right now and in the near future!

Other nations weren't making the kind of time and financial commitments they are now. Our D1 circuit gave our players a big advantage for many years but that advantage is dropping fast.

We also have big issues with player identification and coaching.

                          Comment

Here is the underlying issue. Many parents are disgruntled bc they have either been told, or figured out by process of elimination, that their kid isn’t big or fast enough. Yes they may be very skilled and see the game as chess but got pushed aside for “bigger / stronger / faster”.
Now they look at the u20 team get beat by Netherlands and Japan which they deem to be slower, smaller, smarter! This enrages the parents even more. However the thing that is missing is that the senior team is very successful and they typically are bigger, faster, stronger, along with the ability to play chess on the field. So if you want to field teams like this you need to weed through many players and we know the u20 team will only give the senior team about 3 players! They will most likely be the prototypical American soccer player. They will be trained and developed and will help our senior team be at the top of the woman’s game. Sorry but it’s just what is happening and will continue to happen until the USWNT is not even competitive.

i beleive it has zero to do with the men. I also beleive that we can celebrate the success of the womens team AND fully understand the reasons behind it. Primarily a massive advantage over every other country in the world based on numbers alone. Ty Title 9. Soccer is a team game Its like having no weight classes in boxing and cheering because a heavyweight KOs flyweights. Then saying he is doing it because he is "better" . Everything requires context. If you dont want to participate , cool, but some of us are enjoying the discussion

Women's soccer in general is horrendous to watch similar to the WNBA is unwatchable. If it isn't a kid or relative of some sort you aren't watching a USA women's game for the beauty of it.

I would rather watch the men lose in somewhat style than the women win at this point. The men aren't painful to watch from a soccer perspective.
