Being approached to travel to Sweden with my 11-12 year old I would laugh directly in the face of the coach. I guess I can see families centering their vacations around their child’s soccer but again, I don’t see the value at that age.
Agree it's a bit too young but 13-15 definitely- value of the whole thing notwithstanding. Being more independent, traveling the world all good stuff. Doing it with a soccer team to meaningless soccer games not so much. Even those quasi mission/tour trips to the DR or similar would be better

I guess your kid never played high level soccer.

It’s so funny that a person never been to the event saying “waste of time “

Not true. ECNL Finals are during that same time period. Matchfit will never beat Solar 09s anyway.

In sports, never say never. Your face will get slapped by your own words.

Not sure how the competition is for girls, but for boys Gothia, San Marino, etc. is a nice experience for low to mid level teams. If you want higher competition like liverpool, man united, barcelona youth, you go to a tournament like the MIC Cup in Barcelona.

She is playing high level. 11-12 is not the right age to tour the country for soccer games. There is more value in it for the club and coach (and maybe an obsessed parent or two) than for the player. My opinion. After puberty, 14-15 is more appropriate.

I have two kids playing in college and couldn't disagree more. Leaving their bubble at an early age to play in other areas and countries opened them up to experiences that shaped their future decisions on where to play at the next level.

Lol many of the players on these kinds of trips won't ever even sniff a college roster. I'm a huge proponent of youth travel and experiences, but these trips are usually very overpriced for what you get.

14 is an early age. At 11 some kids still believe in Santa. Going to Sweden at 11 for soccer isn’t shaping their future decisions anymore than it would at 14. At least at 14 they have more experience behind them and better understanding of their goals.

The 09 team was mentioned and they'd be 13 next summer. I'm not sure where you're getting age 11 from unless you struggle with math.

That’s a good one, people don’t even check the facts and start to make their argument.

You must struggle with reading comprehension. 11-12 year olds were mentioned previously as a hypothetical. It wasn’t in regards to the 09’s and for the record you are a straight up dope if you think Sweden is the next step in your tweens soccer “career”

Many teams from all over the world attend the Gothia Cup. This is mostly local/regional clubs.

Like anything else you are free to attend, like many teams from the USA do, or chose not to go. If MF shore wants to attend, great for them. I'm sure they'll have a great experience. If you think it's crazy, don't go.
