Do you think the coach not being open for competition against a fav isn't a thing? It sure is.

What about Auburn? What about Michigan? Syracuse is P5 and they only won 2 games this year and were ranked 248... D1 is the higher level of the pyramid with 347 schools.Yes there is a difference in from the bottom programs to the top but many are competitive and hard work for any student athlete
      Agreed.

How many professionals, including super stars, were tossed from academies or bounced around and never given a chance until they found the one place where they fit in and were wanted? It is a story that repeats over and over. Identification and deciding who plays over who is always down to subjectivity so the idea that there's never a case to be made for looking for a better situation is silly.
This poster gets it ^^. It is part of life.

Always the coaches' fault. The idea that a kid just isn't as good as they thought they were is lost on too many

What you are saying is you want competition, but not THAT much?

Aren't we talking about college students?

Yes, both players and parents alike. they also fail to miss subtle warning signs that coaches drop, hearing what they want to hear instead,

Some also are ill prepared for the grind of college soccer, where your job is on the line almost every day. Many of these players grew accustomed to being the top players on their club and HS teams. College is a completely different animal.

There are thousands of student/athletes in the transfer portal with little or no playing time. Unless they are willing to accept lessor programs the chances to transfer are slim. If they forfeited athletic scholarships to enter the portal there chances are even slimmer they will get another scholarship.

Let’s hope the Arkansas transfer is not a bust like the Georgetown transfer last season .

Not always. Benchwarmers from top programs will have a much easier time landing somewhere. Coaches understand getting PT year 1 can be a huge challenge at certain programs. That doesn't mean the player won't be a great fit at their particular program.

That said, many in the portal won't ever find homes or decide what they're offered isn't worth moving, changing schools etc. If you know you're leaving the team regardless and are indifferent about the school thus far, ehy nit toss your name in the ring. But this is also why you should never burn bridges. Reach out to programs you were considering before accepting that offer. You never know, they might still want you.

TS parents think the transfer portal is just about playing time. It’s still about being a student-athlete not just transferring for playing time. So much to consider not just playing time. For the vast majority in the transfer portal their situation will not improve other than you may play more. These decisions could affect you when you graduate. Then what?!

I’d imagine most of the kids in portal form D1 schools is bc of playing time. If you’re going to play D1, P4 or not, u are a good player. Good players want to play. No matter what. So maybe the original choice of school was wrong bc they thought they would play or or even just play. If your playing 10-15/game , that’s not enough for a competitive player who chose D1 in the first place.

That’s correct, the vast majority of players in the transfer portal is because of playing time. Do you think it’s academic? Those are called transfer students and do so because of either the academics or social reasons of not liking the college. The transfer portal is about soccer. It’s pretty simple to understand the difference.

How does one gain visibility to the portal?
