Not op here. Honestly the answer to your question while valid is no. I can understand your question for sure. It is valid. Truth be told all stars parents (and players) went into the game thinking just win 4-0 and we will have a shootout. We saw the national rules..... I guess our bad. Once we were up 4-0 we laid off and didn't really try to run it up......you could see the game completely change. All parents were saying ok get ready for the shoot out. When will it be? Had we known differently we would have pressed for more. So you can say sour grapes but this is the truth. How can anyone disagree that these two teams should play again. I know.... Not the rules. But the right answer.

It was never about running up the score on an inferior team........so running it up would have done nothing except be a classless move.....which is what I thought goal differentials were all about (protecting the weaker teams). In the teams mind, the shoot was inevitable..........wrong answer. Should scored 20 and demoralized the other team......that is what this setup does. Lesson learned.....good luck to both teams this weekend. None of these posts are meant to be sour grapes or take anything away from the two finalists....both good teams with good kids....just pointing out a terrible process.

And from what I heard, the coach was still encouraging the players to score, even at the end of the game. So the coach knew the rules.

I would contact the national tournament and ask to have rules clarified. The max goal rules are there to keep sister teams from taking a 7-0 dive.

Us Club tournaments are a joke.
The intention is not to win, it's to be able to post on your website that the team qualified for the National Cup.
NEP now sends teams form state cups directly to national finals.
Last year it was only 1 team per age group New England regional winner now all 4 state cup winner qualify.
Also there are no residency rules for state cup total joke.
Us Youth Soccer has rules and that's the way to go.

But if the state rules are different, that is odd and also kinda dumb. Goal differentials are meant to protect teams like the express so teams layoff once up. And also to makes sure that you have to beat the other top opponents to move on. This clearly doesn't happen in these ridiculous set up
Win your state goto regionals compete against 10 to 15 other states if you win you go to finals.
