I didn't think spreading it around was supposed to be part of the criteria when designing a paper team that represents the best players at their position in the state. So I'll tend to agree with the latter part of your statement that it is a disservice to those who were left off Because everyone gets a medal.
Having at least one representation on an all-star team has always been the case, from little league to any professional league. Someone deserving gets shorted every time to make due way for representation.

Really? Because I certainly know of kids who were upset for not getting the honors they felt they deserved. Whether that be an all-state athletic award or an academic achievement. To say or think only parent care is off-base
The lists are built off reputation(s), so traditionally good teams will get an extra player or two. One could argue some years they deserve even more than the numerous slots they already get.
Only one that jumped out at me was Bedford's goalie; no sure how sure made 2nd team. Who specifically did you have an issue with, or just the # overall and not whether they were actually deserving?
