Politics has attached itself to this issue however the true nature of womens lack of advancement in the USA is a complete lack of adequate and accessible childcare in conjunction with their jobs.

No mother will farm out their child to substandard care unless its a last resort. You have an entire population to show what happens when children don't get the care/education others in the country are given. And this site is great for blaming them continuously.
      So what is the remedy?

There is NO inherent unity. African Americans wear what they wear because they have been relegated as a sub-culture. There is no acceptance at all of the culture that they were forced to create themselves.

It is not as though they were provided easy access to Post War suburbia that whites were. Whites left the cities behind and created their own communities that absolutely excluded blacks.

So with blacks not living in the same communities or attending the same schools you are shocked that fashion is different? Don't people who live in the country wear different clothes than in suburbia? I mean when was the last time you donned a pair of Dickies and a insulated flannel shirt? Yet, my use of the term "red neck" was called out as racists. (Even though while derogatory, I cant really be a racists of my own race. Red neck is not an actual "race").

In fact one of the posters actually flat out admitted to people having "racists attitudes" and blamed blacks for being responsible for that: "People have racist attitudes because of the way black behave. It is as plain as that, especially for the "urban blacks". " I mean that is racism in a nut shell. "People have racist attitudes because of the way black behave." Let that sink in.

I'll quote it again, one more time, "People have racist attitudes because of the way black behave."

This statement allows the poster to then justify their follow up statement, "Don't blame it all on whitey if you don't get a job because you speak ebonics and your pants are at our knees."

So, I ask you, at what point were blacks accepted into white culture without the goal posts being moved?
John Gotti wore expensive suits. If you are stupid enough to judge people by the way they look there really isn't much anyone can do to change your world view. My wife teaches many students who are artists. They do not look like art students from the 50's yet the vast majority of them are terrific people. I have learned to look past how people dress and look. When you talk to someone over the phone at a business you have no idea whether they have piercings or tattoos or wear a polyester pant suit.

My dog is in day care 5 days a week and have been going to the same place for 10 years. The owner has a policy of tattoo and piercing cover up and it is absolutely ridiculous. The majority of the clientele are white liberals and nearly everybody maligns her policy but she won't change. And mind you this women is in her early 40's. Just last week she put up a huge Carly Fiorina sign and my reaction was " well, this explains everything..." Judgmental whackjob conservative. Personally I think it is a huge mistake to polarize your customers with any kind of political sign. I would pull my dog from the business but he is happy there. She pays crap wages and has a lot of turnover.

you miss the point that somehow the responsibility has been reduced to a gender role which affects women more than men economically. Men are also not granted the same "privileges" to take maternity/paternity leave which puts almost the sole burden on women.

And, in many households the wife may in fact be the bread winner but her future earning potential is harmed by having kids because they cannot determine as a household who should stay home because of socio norms that are engrained.

I know a wife as breadwinner contradicts some previous posts but in economic downtimes it is very common.

It is, at its most basic level a tribal mentality that determines either acceptance or exclusion. And while it may be a "social norm" as you say it is a norm who's rules are defined by one group and not "society" at large.

If African Anericans, by your standard, were as powerful and influential as whites are, the "social norm" may be that your kids need to wear their pants below their butt too. Would you think it fair that your kids are excluded or unfairly judged because they are wearing "Vineyard Vine" and not more "urban" attire?
If my business needs customers to survive, those customers need to feel safe and welcome in my store. The people I put in place to greet and serve those customers need to leave them with a positive impression. Whatever the color or background of the job applicant, they need to meet this standard. I'm amazed at how many people don't get this.

Patience. In another 20 years all the old white male and female dinosaurs will be dead and the millenials will be running things. In 40 years organized religion in the US will be a dusty little corner in a forgotten room in the basement. The sooner fundamentalism disappears the better off we will all be. Not only are they dangerous but also insufferably annoying.

Another question. I am too young to remember much before the mid 70s. When I see movies or documentaries of era prior to the mid 60s pretty much all people dressed the same. A pair of pants a tucked in shirt a tie and a hat of some sort. This was in a time of segregation. Why didn't the black population have more of a disconnect in dress in those days than they do now?

I believe you are as prejudiced as the people you criticize. Social scientists seem to think so too. There is very little difference between ultra liberal and the ultra conservative.

Enjoy your bigotry, it has served you well and will continue to serve you well into the future, but don't ever think that you are a good human being, ok?

How do you know how your customers feel? Do you survey them or just make decisions based on your narrow world view and prejudices.

Cujo Classic. Pontificates about not judging people by how they look but is perfectly willing to judge people on their political lean. You can't make this sh%t up.

That is right. I hire someone to clean the house, my husband works just as hard on household needs as I do. I don't accept lower pay as a female. I fight for pay based on my performance not because 'I am female and deserve it because of overall inequity in pay' based on historical male domination in the workplace. I am a not a victim. I am educated, valuable to my workplace, and accept my own weaknesses.

Well Cujo, the guy may want to bring back the 50s, but it seems to me liberals like you are stuck in the 60s, the 1860s that is.
