Again, as mentioned, the apparent "glee" of many people is evident for all to see, and is bipartisan. That would include the post you quoted.

OUR CDC botched the kits!!! Stop spewing lies. Asia developed its own test kits. We failed to do so.

You are drowning now in what, for you, are deep waters.

Here is a link to a test kit that S. Korea was exporting FEB 25. Runs faster than the tests here as well.

^^^^ why didn’t Trump BUY some of these ? Even to fill the gap.

“Downside” is that tests cost $132. Rather than $1600 here for the uninsured as we’ve heard.

Commercially available. S Korea doing pretty well with response. Lots of testing.

Incumbent upon you to tell us what’s wrong with those tests.

There were unprecedented technical mistakes made here and they were of an amateurish nature. First problem was one of the 3 different oligonucleotides that were complementary to the viral nucleocapsid design was poorly designed and gave ambiguous results. Couple thoughts

        1) I’ve designed a hundred of these Oligos if I’ve designed one and I’ve never made this mistake. Well, I have but you check your design again BEFORE you manufacture it (also manaufactured my own oligos once upon a time). If a first year grad student made this mistake I’d tease them for weeks about wasting $100 bucks and more importantly the day or two of failed experiments after and add another day to design and make the ilk go
        Again.

Yet, since there was TRIPLE redundancy with the 3 Oligos, my exec decision would have been continue with 2, treat positives on those 2 like true positives ....maybe you get a couple more
False positives rather than three but so what given the stakes? But did CDC do? Nope they froze for days while they wangled with problems with Oligo N3. But then after a few days wasted they decided to proceed like I would have - just use two oligos.

This was the first screw up. It’s granular. Let me know if you want more truth about the test kits

I’m taken aback by that response. What was it in that post you could possibly characterize that way?

DOW dropped 400 while Trump spoke and trading had to be halted again.

Sock puppet I have ZERO glee about that. Actually the inverse of glee. All the gains of Trumps time in office are now gone and we don’t know where the bottom is.

While I think "The Perfesser's" comment was fine and admirable on the surface, he was sure to give a little dig at the end, as it his nature. However, the post I was referring to was the one that made sure he recalls the controversy about "the wives and daughter's". I get that poster's point, but it's a tired discussion and doesn't add anything today. So, while not dripping with glee (as was my initial point), I'd like to see us a nation rise above it all.

How do we “rise above it all” until the cancer in the Oval Office has been removed? He has lied to America from day one about this virus and now is trying to rewrite history. He’s perfect, nothing is ever his fault. But, yeah, let’s rise above it all.

The crap with the test was all about the bugs here “wetting their beak”

Perfectly fine inexpensive tests were available but he thought he had time like we always did to have cdc develop a kit then hand it to our manufacturers. Only that required competence at CDC that no longer existed post trump.

The Chinese scientist who invented the coronavirus test had worked at the University of Florida for 25 years and raised his kids here but left, along with two other notable researchers, because of the Trump administration investigating them.

STOP HIM FROM TALKING! Every time he does the Dow takes another dive. He thinks he's making people feel better about the situation but it's the opposite! Take away his phone, lock him up and lose the key.

I have absolutely no doubt whoever is manufacturing our tests is a for profit company that got into Trump (or Jared's ear) early on

I heard one expert say our test is absurdly too complicated, glitches in manufacturing and in use, and that the WHO/German test is simple, gives you what you need quickly and inexpensively. Most times KISS is best (keep it simple stupid). Had we used the WHO version we could have had millions of kits ready when needed (of course assuming the administration would have acted accordingly which is questionable)
