The subsidies are from the tax breaks they receive by buying the vehicles. $ 2500 to $ 7500 depending on battery size. Early buyers of the Volt, with the $ 7500 rebate , had average incomes over $ 100,000 a year.

Hope he got a great deal, as they are gathering dust at most dealerships.

So what? You could take advantage of them. And since more plugins and hybrids are on the road gas prices have fallen. You are not harmed by this.

Shocker that people with 100k salaries find ways to maximize their income and as a "Conservative" you find some Social Injustice with that?

Falling gas prices make the purchase of hybrids and plug ins even less desirable . even wit the tax incentive, the ROTI for many people would be 14 years. The average age of a car on the road in America is a little over 11 years. I usually keep mine around 10.

I am harmed because my tax dollars are being used .

I don't mind them maximizing their income , just not at the expense of others for a product that can stand on its own legs.

I wouldn't hold my breath. His mantra is to pontificate, insult, deflect, and ignore items he doesn't have an answer for.

oh, go fuk yourself, "Your tax dollars are being used." LOL At least this is a program that you can use if you wanted to, that is your effing fault.

How many companies get kick backs and subsidies all the time. Again, football stadiums are being funded by taxpayers for Billionaires and you feel "harmed" over a rebate program that you choose not to use.

I wouldn't use the program because it doesn't make any sense economically.

We aren't talking about " how many companies..." blah , blah , blah. The subject at hand is the use of taxpayer money to support the purchase of products that can not stand on their own two legs . The harm is less economical as it is ideological. We have to support a losing concept because the Government is forcing us to.

Deflecting away to another issue just weakens your response.

If it has no benefit then users would shy away from it. Put explain why it has no economic benefit to you. Just saying so doesn't make it so.

Even with the tax incentive, the cost of the vehicle and the continued usage as compared to a similar model with a gasoline engine , it would take the majority of owners 14 years to make up the difference. As gas prices go lower, the time period gets longer to recover the difference.

That is in the opinion of many , including Consumer Reports.

You don't have to talk about "blah, blah, blah", but if you are going to play the part of the "Fiscal Conservative" you can't cherry pick your outrage either or you come across as disingenuous.

And for some people the ability to use HOV lanes and have access to premium parking is a benefit.

The reality is cars never return on their investment. But the return on investment comes from R&D and production capacity. Investing in and developing new technology creates different markets and products. All those charging stations you see at parking lots are new businesses and jobs. Businesses that would not exist without developing electric and hybrid cars.

Without high end sports cars we wouldn't be using aluminum or carbon fiber.

We have Velcro because of the space program even. So lots of the little things that you use everyday were the result of low yield ROI, subsidized programs.

                              Again, go fuk yourself.
